I have a problem when there is a big gap between my meals, so eating something atleast every 2 hours is a must, otherwise my throat starts irritating and dryness causing thirst.

Try eating almonds at night after you've had your evening meal. Healthy and good.

I would highly recommend ISABGOL, a natural remedy that is high in fibre and cleans out the stomach all to way to the 'bottom'.

Cheap to buy and natural.

Malang;

I took 3 courses of Motillium + Omeprazol for two weeks the first two times and for 4 weeks the third time. I got temporary relief and that was that.

So, hungry at night eh? I suggest you try to eat a low fat and high protein meal before you go to bed in this case.

For example, buy a few bags of frozen green beans (Watties brand from NZ is my fav) and boil half a bag in salted water (let it boil for about 3 minutes) and eat it before you go to bed. It is better to peel the beans before you eat them. The protein in the beans seemingly consumes the acid that your stomach generates but in my experience does not cause the generation of any extra acid. Also, boiled green beans are a healthy snack in general due to their very low fat content.

Try that and let me know how it goes.

Thanks IchWill and myself123.

Well sometimes nothing seems to help.

Doctor has given me Pariet only, but still i was having problem, and another Doc. told me to take Motillium and Moxal also, which worked intially but now again suffering like before. In fruits only apple works for me.

One issue which i am having difficulty in managing is, If I take my dinner 2 hours before going to bed, then i feel hungry in the middle of night, and if i don't eat again and stay empy stomach it makes it more worse.

As for acid reflux mine has been on the increase...seems to have started in Qatar.

You can try a few natual remedies:

1. Boil fennel seeds and use the water for tea.

2. Suck slowly on a clove.

3. Plain bread on its own.

Keep eating lightly regularly don't miss meals.

What is Gerd?

I have taken many courses of medication and still have it.

Like many people said before, some diet and life style modifications might help. Here is what works for me:

1. Don't sleep right after you eat. Allow at least 2 hours of rest before you sleep.

2. Avoid afternoon nap.

3. Avoid eating rice, pasta, pizza, bread and any food that is high in carbohydrates after 2PM.

4. Avoid eating partially cooked onions. And in general avoid eating onions all together immediately before bed time.

5. Avoid spicy foods

6. Avoid sour foods after 2PM, especially foods made with tomato based sauce.

7. Try to eat smaller, more frequent meals with small snacks in between.

8. Nearly ripe (slightly green) bananas seem to help me reduce my stomach acid levels. I don't know why, but they work as well as taking 2 tablets of Maalox if not even better, and they are obviously safer!

9. VERY IMPORTANT: stay warm! Never set your AC below 23C in the summer and wear warm clothes and use heaters in the winter. Following this has GREATLY reduced my suffering!

10. Get enough sleep! I always have increased acid levels when I don't get enough sleep.

Good luck and get well!

Basically, the drug is the same i.e. PPI (proton Pump Inhibitor) and various doctors prescribe it under various brands.

The main work of PPI is to block / slow down the creation of ACID in the body.

Still, do not go for drugs by yourself. Let the doctor examine the intensity and your physiology and then prescribe you.

I have it quite bad. Two things that work well for me are;

Nexxium (prescription medication)

Zegerid OTC.

I haven't found Zegerid here, but it is available online, I use Drugstore.com to get mine.

Hope this helps.

Suzan, I am one the sufferers of GERD but I am treating it medically as well as with the changes in life-style.
