Doha Vs Dubai

We have been living in Dubai UAE for last 20+ years, but due to recession, i lost my job and recently have been offered a job in QP. We are at a dilemma whether to move to Doha or not as we have heard that life in doha is much different than in Dubai and people who make the move generally do not like there, especially the kids. I am getting offers in dubai as well but was just wondering if it would be wise to take a chance with doha for a company like QP.

i thought of moving alone and leaving the family in dubai but then i also heard that doha does not allow res visa if you have dubai res visa.

Appreciate your advises.

Thank you very much friends for your candid feedback. I am getting mixed responses as I also have similar concerns in my mind, in terms of salary it is not that high as compared to dubai offers its just 8% higher and the other thing is that kids may not get admission now at this time of the year in british curriculum schools, thats why i was thinking to move there myself and keeping family in uae atleast for first year.

Second concern is non availability of options to change the job if i dont like QP job as i have been working here in uae for a mnc company for 20 years so it will be entirely different work environment there and if i dont like i dont have option to look for some other job there.

That is why i m confused, i m trying to find out if my family can stay back on thier own in uae once i cancel my visa as qatar does not allow second visa while uae has no problems in giving second visa.

appreciate if you can advise me on these two specific points.

you cannot compare Dubai with Qatar . Qatar still a desert

So once you got a chance to Qatar think twice.Especially there is a two year ban for cancellation of jobs in Qatar even if you have worked for years in a company .If the company is not professional they never gonna provide NOC forever . If they have a Qatari management then you will suffer

Also note that things move at a far slower pace than dubai. This applies to almost everything. So, be prepared for some frustration. The level of services, variety, options is way less than Dubai.

The Housing here is more expensive than Dubai. The quality is not as good as in Dubai either.

I think you should pay Qatar a visit before you make up your mind.

as u have spent a considerabLe amount of time in Dubai, i dont think its a wise decision to move. You would really miss Dubai, especially meena bazar and other stuff... but ULTIMATELY its ur decision.

There is much difference between life in Dubai and Doha with regards to entertainment amd kids activities.

Dubai is more modernised than Doha.

You can join your kids to any of the social clubs in Doha but this is a costly decision.

QP is a reputed company, you will grant covered medical treatment and education assisstance.

You can split your leave more than once a year, depending on your work approval.

If your family stays with you, QP will pay you a ticket and your family up to 3 children once per year.

If you are here as a married bachelor, they will pay you a ticket 3 times a year.

Otherwise you will be granted two tickets a year, if you are not married.

But take care that the housing allowance will not be the same compared to married and single staff.

When moving to Doha to Earn a good Salary with an outstanding reputable company like QP then you won't regret it. if i am not mistaken this company allows their employee to have twice annual leave with a ticket supported upto their children.

I dont think even Dubai allows you to have a residence visa of doha be able to work in Dubai do they? You cant have everything in life. You need to see the salary package, end of the day you are here to earn, activities here are less to do when compared to kids but then again its up to each one how they want to live their life.

QP is a good company and takes good care of their employees. Consider moving only if you are ready to make good money.
