There WAS a time when MES was good for higher classes. One can say the girls section is still not doing all that bad in general. But gone are the days when schools like DMIS faltered and people moved kids back to MES and others for the last 2 or 3 years of their school education.

If you see bright students from MES outside, talk to them. It would be their individual effort, their parents efforts, and in many cases, generous amount of private tuition (the MES trademark!). And having a few students studying outside (parent's income is a big factor in that) is hardly any yardstick ! The yardstick should be how an AVERAGE student does in school NOW. Not last year, not 5 years ago, and certainly not 10 years ago !!

The comment about BPS, DPS etc being business ventures puts the whole thing in perspective. No one is taking such a big risk with the investment to start a school these days just for the sake of charity ! The difference between them and MES is that the others MAKE AN EFFORT to maintain good student-teacher ratios, while they continue to be business ventures. They are worried about tomorrow, and what kind of kids come out of the school tomorrow. That BASIC factor is what is missing with MES these days.

PS: All these personal insults (directed at whomever) are just immature... enough said !

Sean-C,

After having read your defamatory MES statements, one can logically conclude that you are an ex-MES student, probably sodomised by an older student.

And you have finally gathered the courage to vent out years of anger, resentment or depression due to certain traumatic incidents during your time at MES...into this forum.

ROFL!!!!

More MES alumni (who have never experienced better) defending their pathetic school.

Your answers are all above... and on http://www.fixmes.com

Were the people you quote, ex MES students? I could swear that 1 of those two is illiterate (and still sells vegetables) and the other chose to study in Madras!

hmmm I do recall a R. Seetharaman in his role at SBI, being convicted for involvement with the Harshad Metha securities scam...

But thats not the point!

MES is much better than other schools here for higher classes. I happen to know the owners of BPS & DPS etc and these are just business ventures for them. They are facing serious problems in retaining good teachers.

I also came across many students of MES who excelled in higher education in universities of USA, Australia, IIT's & IIM's.

In general all the Indian schools are not that good.

Main problem is the availability of good teachers. This has been constant refrain from most of the school management.

As for DPS and BPS, with their tie-ups with schools in India, they at least have a chance of getting some good teachers. Same could be the case with Noble from the next academic year after their tie up with Shemford.

superman101, you defend your "SCHOL" very well.... If I were you, I would demand a refund for being [un]educated there...

Its really sad seeing MES ex students make these feeble and moronic attempts in defending their school! In doing so they only reinforce the case against MES.

Oh! And in passing, ISO 9002???? Is that what MES claims to be? ISO 9002 is so 1994'ish!. Even the standard was revised 2 times since then, (in 2000 & in 2008). There is no ISO 9002! Just ISO 9001.... MES claiming ISO 9002, is indeed a signal for you to stay away as apparently they stopped functioning and improving since 2000!

FixMES, what you are trying to do is good.... But I'm not being pessimistic, but rather realistic when I say that changing MES is impossible. As long as there is a section of society that knows no better and is willing to pay only peanuts.... all MES will churn out is monkeys.

It is sad to see ex-students defending the school, without being aware of its current state of affairs. The girls section is somewhat OK, but the boys section is totally out of control. If people like "Mahir" thinks the current principal will change things, all we can say is that that is a good day-dream. Just go by any 8th standard classroom in boys section, and you will realize what the school has become off late, and it would be a great illustration of the "achievements" of the current principal and a management that supports him. He has been there forever, what has he achieved so far ? What has he done after he was handed over the principal's post ?

If you glorify the school based on "facilities", obviously Mahir has not really been to other schools. It is not building facilities that matter, it is maintaining them, and using them. Robin Singh and putting a few computers in the name of CBSE-I or e-education are all gimmicks which make good news for newspapers (as is to cause students to faint in the sun in the name of support for Qatar's FIFA bid); but the end result can easily be realized by walking along the hallways, and looking at the quality/capability of students coming out of the school these days. And let us not even talk about teachers who purposefully do not take the effort to teach properly in classes, so that they can get more students to private tuitions, all of which is well known to the current administration.

The time for change is now, we hope people realize it. If the management remains complacent based on the feedback of the principal and heads of departments/sections who suck up to them, we can only pray for the vast majority of students there.

BTW, other schools also have their share of problems. Specifically, DMIS seems to go in cycles, where it goes from good to worse and back. Birla folks have stopped adding students because of what seems to be lack of space, it was going the way of MES before with explosive growth and teachers being hired with inadequate skills. Ideal had its own share of "principal" magic. DPS-MIS has been relatively stable, except for again growth without corresponding facilities.

MES makes education accessible to the kids of a large section of Indians here who are not making mega bucks. But that does not mean that the school should deteriorate to the current situation. It only takes a bit of will power, a bit less of pity politics in both the management and the teachers, and some better intention/motivation/vision that is beyond money.

If one blames everything on growth, who is responsible for that ? Who is responsible for taking the student strength from 30 per class to 60 now in many classes ? Was it greed ? Or is it social service, with blatant disregard for teacher-student ratios ? Wasn't there an time/opportunity to stop and say "no" ? After acting foolishly for so long, now everything is being blamed on "being big" ????

Like it or not, there a language issues (more about grammer and usage, accent would be next) at the school, derived directly from the quality of teachers that are hired at MES. This is at least partially true of other Indian schools too. If you have any doubt about this, please do listen to the principal of MES speaking.

Now whether all Mallus have issues or not etc are just generalizations. Mallu accent is not the best, but then accent is not as severe as issue as being able to put grammatically correct sentences together. And there are much worse accents in other parts of India, and many other countries, including parts of the arab world itself ! So if somebody is picking on Mallus for their accent, let them do it. This is not Toastmasters, we are discussing a school.

Mallus have excelled, flourished, and at the same time failed spectacularly (just look at the roads and work culture in Kerala)... if someone wants to pick on that, let them look at the mirror first, watch television about other cultures and societies, and if they still feel it is worth talking about, let them do !

For MES, it is do or die now. It has become worse than many (not all!) government run schools in Kerala itself, in terms of discipline and student quality. Let us hope for the sake of the 10000 students there that people who run it get their act together.

Shame on you.... You do not make a great case for the school that you are attempting to defend!

i am an ex student , its sad to see so many people posting bad comments about the school , i had an amazing time when i was in school passed out in 2002 , back then mes was truly amazing , even today i think its the best expatriate school in qatar , sure its had issues , but theseare problem any organization goes through when they reach a certain level , mes grew so much that they found it hard to sustain things withthe curent fees structure , i mean come on with thew kind of fees structure they have dont you think its truyly maamzing what they have achieved , shows the tru nature of the schol , they have only one goal and that is to be the best school , i think the last two principals really messed up the standards , leadership is key , now with mr sasidharan incharge i think its gona get back to its best , and also has any one seen the cbse i features mes provides , its friggin amazing , i dont think independednt schools ahve that sort of setup , plus theya rea lso going to start e -education , what more do you want , mes cricket academy , with robin singh trainijg kids , i dont get it why people are so uptight seriously , people expect more than waht they are payin for thats the probelm ..

i m the former student of MES batch 2005 and i must say that during those times we had some excellent teachers who used to stress themselves and us so that we would pass in our exams regardless of any subject and indeed they were strict but it helped us a lot in our exams. I would say all of them were kerelites but they were the best. they made the hardly working students work-hard.

seriously i dont know about the current situation but i m proud to be the former student of MES.

tinkerbell, the problem arises when schools are considered more of a business than an avenue to educate the young. With the growing costs of living, these low cost schools fought hard to retain good teachers (who actually believed in imparting education to the young, inspiring those that could be inspired and moulding minds to strive for excellence). However these schools could barely make ends meet and yet barely comply with governmental regulations. Eventually the system broke down. Then came the vultures, who got rid of the few quality teachers and staff that were around and replaced them with cheaper, low quality, staff that could barely be considered educated, themselves. Eventually these vultures turned these schools around to be profit making businesses that only churned out lame and barely educated drones.

Can this change? No. Because there will always be a strata of society that would be content with barely educating (or programming) their children to be these drones that lack lustre and are content with having a School Certificate. All of this, because they cannot afford better. And all of this because they consider that getting a salary of QAR 2000 -5000 beats what they would make in their home country.

For those that can afford better there will always be the better schools like DPS, DESS et al.

Really I want to know from you,why you are so jealous on mallus. I would kindly bring in to your notice that the mallus are well known not only middle ease also all over the world due to the capability to do the hard work, sincerity and behaviour.

That is the main reason they are in top in all business and jobs in indian community outside.

Try to learn from them and change your attitude. Only barking dogs will not bite anybody. They will keep on barking. Mr.Sean C, You are allowed to bark. Go ahead.

MES needs to change from the inside out... starting with some old members of management, who treat education as secondary, and using the school to further their personal businesses as primary. The next change should be the principal, who comes from a long history of playing "groupism", having never given meritocracy a chance.

I think they are beginning to see how schools should be run, seeing other schools. It is not too different from the earlier days of MES itself. But no amount of soul searching is going to help, until the current set of people move aside, and a newer generation takes over both management and academics !

I have tried hard finding a non-mallu Indian school in Qatar. DMIS to a certain extent has maintained its immaculate stature even though you hear lot of Mallu accent in its campus now a days. Fees structure is expensive but teachers are very professional. I hear DPS MIS also has good standard. MES no doubt gets good results evey year, but I am scared to subject my children to such cultural shock.

it sucks.

If you do wish to bring your kids up in the malayali culture, then this is the school to enroll your future malayali citizens.

The teachers talk strange and expect the children to excel in their forte... you know, the 'simbbly sduupeed, gelf male-ya-lee egg-scent'

Depends on what you want to bring your kids up as... supermarket staff or elite!

Well if you choose quality over cheap 3rd class education, it comes with a price tag, however the results speak for itself.

DESS is still one of the best.
