For a Qatari woman to marry a non Qatari man she must have permission from the Ministry of Interior. If you married abroad, your marriage isn't 'legal' here.

Your children will have American citizenship. Qatari citizenship is only granted through the father.

The children will not enjoy the rights and priveleges of Qataris here. (free education, healthcare, etc)

You would have to contact a lawyer regarding divorce, however, the basic law here states that the man is the guardian of his children, and controls when they enter or leave the country.

If you have a residence visa and a sponsor other than your wife, she cannot have you 'kicked out of the country'. If she is your sponsor, she could, but as guardian of your children they would go with you, and the American Embassy would support that right.

Good luck

Um Ali

Question: "If me & my wife went to Qatar can my wife take my kids & would the Qatari giverment stop me from returing to The USA with my US citizen Kids?"

I am assuming the reason your asking is that you are scared that your wife might split up with you....but thats not my business.... so my answer is. . .

You said your kids are US citizen (they can not be Qatari citizens as they are not 100% qatari blood) than no one in their right mind will stop any US citizen going back home. You might not be able to get her out of Qatar but there is no way in hell the Qatar Govt will mess with US citizens who want to return back to the US.

If its so risky dont come to Qatar.

Islamic law I believe support the father.

iam sure,,no one other than a lawyer will be able to give you perfect feedback.. better consult a Shari'a court lawyer in Qatar.

btw, if you are married in Qatar itself,,there shouldnt be any issues.

So you got permission not only from her family but from the government to marry this Qatari lady? This is a very rare occurrence. I am assuming you are muslim as she would not be allowed to marry a non-muslim man. In that case, I would assume you are governed by the Shari'a legal system in place making rulings over child custody. The man always wins out UNLESS her family is very powerful and tries to exert some influence.

If your marriage is a good one - why are you worrying about losing custody of your children? Wouldn't your wife want your family to stay together.
