My problem is not with the needing of the glasses as well, as up till now i've gotten by with out wearing actually any but I fear i am actually starting to notice it becoming harder to compensate with out wearing them, so my decion is one of vanity more than anything as i tend to need "glass" lenses here to get the correct script which are nothing short of coke bottles and limits my frame choice so I would be happy just to get my script to at least half of what i am now that way i have better options.
Well, I am still lacking on the 'scientific knowledge' on the whole process, but basically Dr. Katrina said to 'correct' my vision problem I will be trading one pair of glasses for another. I am nearsighted now but afterwards I will be farsighted (it comes with old age too). I have no problem with needing glasses while sitting, reading, etc. I do have a problem with needing glass while I want to be active outdoors.
Thanks for the info. qr 9000 is still slightly cheaper than Aus were its about qr14000 without medical insurance so I still might consider it here. My problem is i have a severe astigimatism that won't be completely corrected by lasik so will still need glasses or contacts thats why i am trying to decide to have done here or not as i know from what they have told me at home and how close they can get me to being at least in an accebtable range.
I did have a medical record on file when I returned and the good Dr. Katrina put some real data in there. Hopefully they put the results in there. I'm am sure it is a good clinic overall, it just needs better management.
If they are a serious establishment (and here this can be a big assumption!), they should give you a printed copy of your exams AND they should keep a soft copy on their records. Good luck!
And don't give up... Really, it's such a blessing to have the surgery done.
I went back for my 'follow on' consultation at the Magrabi Center today to find out that the QAR 300 paid last week was for an unneeded eye exam. I was told to come back this week as there was no technician to complete the 'topographic' test of my corneas. I asked last week if there would be another fee (as I am paying 'out of pocket') and was told no.
When I arrived (first customer) at 7:45 am for my 8:00 am appointment I had to wait until 8:20 to be seen by 'Dr. Katrina'. I finally started getting a real consultation and found out that I needed to pay an additional QAR 500 for the 'topo test' to get precise measurements for the pending procedure. I waited another 15 minutes for the tech (not too bad) and had the 'topo test' done. Afterwards, I waited for nearly another hour and no one (nurse, tech, doctor or otherwise) came to me with my results. I just left in frustration after wasting QAR 800 , two separate appointments (over 3 hours time total for a 15 minute procedure) on two different Saturdays.
I doubt I will get the procedure done here after that experience, not to mention that it will cost around QAR 9,000; I can have it done in the U.S for about QAR 7300.
I don't know that method, SouthLand. I had PRK about 10 years ago and last year I had lasik since my eyesight deteriorated again. But even if I could not have had my eyes operated again, the first surgery would have still been worth it as my eyesight was quite poor.
I am still learning, but I know there is also the technology to put in 'intacs', which are permanent contacts. I think that procedure can be done more than once but I am not positive.
harsha, both Lasik and PRK are laser eye surgery. PRK takes longer to heal whislt Lasik you can see everything a few hours later. But they both use laser.
You cannot do either method for a number of times, whether you can have it retouched is dependable on a few factors that only your doctor can determine after the exams are performed.
Laser Surgery is different from Lasik Surgery.. Laser surgery can be done once in a lifetime.. however lasik can be done any no. of times... and after laser surgery you need to be careful for a week or probably a month i guess.. but with lasik a few hours rest.. and your life is normal.. without the glasses or lenses..
I actually have to make a return visit next week as the doctor was done for the day (I had a late afternoon appointment). I am sure it will depend on the type of procedure. But, I will make another post on this thread when I find out.
I went for my initial consultation, although not complete, I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Apparently the Lasik surgeon splits his time between here and Abu Dhabi. The clinic boasts it is #1 in the Middle East and #2 or #3 in the world. They are a chain.
due to the fact that one dr for the consultation and then a separate traveling doctor (doctor that is only in Qatar periodically) performs the surgery. I am not comfortable with this as he would not be around later if there are complications, and if there were, he could not be held responsible as he could just never return to Qatar.
I set up an appointment for an initial consultation at Maghrabi (sp?) inside the Al Ahli Hospital. The cost for first visit is 300 QAR. I'll let you know how it goes.
the Mirgab(sorry if the spellings wrong) Clinic that is attached to Al Ahli hospital do it. Have not had it done here though but I am seriously thinking about it.

had it here in Doha at Al-Emadi medical center and the charges were 8000 Q.R ...

Fatcat, you are right, I'll have to make a return trip for the results (if they are still on file).
Wow, southland, that is really expensive! Keep the exam, though, you might be able to reuse it back in the States.

SouthLand, don't be nervous, it's really such a nice thing to do. If it is Lasik, you're gonna be fine in 1 max 2 days! : )
Needless to say I am nervous about the procedure but would love to shed my glasses.

SouthLand, mind me asking, how much did they quote you?

Very nice, clean, and professional appearance.
Guess I should do thread searches first. . .

your eyes tested for new perscriptions i have had several tests here and because of my astigmatism none of them even came close until I went there.
Thank you for that info. I have yet to really have any health issues here but I understand that Al Ahli is a reputable place so I will look into it.
he means laser surgery for eyes, this is how they call it.
well, not me in person, but some of my friends did it.
try some of the good clinics/hospitals. like doha clinic, al emadi, al ahli.
good luck!
If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.
the Mirgab(sorry if the spellings wrong) Clinic that is attached to Al Ahli hospital do it. Have not had it done here though but I am seriously thinking about it.
Yes, I suppose that may be what the procedure is called here. . .Do you know of any places that have a good reputation for performing this procedure?
probably that would be LASER SURGERY...
