Marriage law

Hey guys, what is the law for two foreign nationals (Italy + Syria) both Muslims, to get married at the Sharia court ? My plan is to re-enter Qatar as a tourist and get married but some jerk told him he can't marry me because of his income being less than QR7500 ..... is it true ? It sounds really strange to me , coz is not like he has to bring me to Doha from wherever I am, I will be there already !!!! Apart from the usual medical test, and birth certificate and passport, does anyone know anything about this rule ? Coz we r being told different things ......I thought I could marry any nationality easily as long as is not Qatari ...... :(

You have an Italian guy and he is not on more that QR10,000 a month? I didn't think Westerners worked for less! But I hope all works out. Love has no boundaries.

i don't think the salary limit is a problem, because they knew that if u brought ur family then you need this amount to make them live here in decent way

house renting+sending to home land + cars and phone bills + live expence will cost approximate like this.

plus they want him to bring his wife as a wife, not another person to work.(this is the purpose of bringing the family right?)

I won't need the single certificate from my embassy coz italy doesn't recognize the islamic marriage anyway . the marriage problem is sorted, we can do it , but the problem is that his salary is way below 10,000 and can't sponsor me as his wife :(

God what a Country, Qataris need permission to marry foreign women and foreigners can't sponsor their wives if their salary is below 10,000 :D :D :D WOW what do they care anyway if we want to be together ....

i think you need a permanent ID to get married here plus a copy of your passport, a certificate of being single certified in the Italian embassy and the foreign affairs ministry, and your islamic certificate (also certified) or your father approval.

And, can't be after my passport because Italy doesn't recognize Sharia law marriage, as they didn't recognize my Sharia law divorce .... he is very aware of this :)

hahaahahah oh well no he is not younger,, and look I have been in Doha 3 years, divorced my Egyptian husband and after being married to him I am ready for anything :D Thanks for ur advice :)

Thank you guys :(

Yes thats what I meant, he needs a minimum salary to sponsor me , and I know is not right :( I know families kept apart because of this :(

And no, he is not younger than me .

But is so horrible and unfair that a married couple can live together for 6 months on a visit visa and then break up because of the income .....

she is asking if she can marry him in Qatar.

And again, if I am not mistaken, in order for them to get married they both must be residents. She can have her own job and to be sponsored by the company. Or she might even stay home.. it is not a question. The question is whether or not they can marry in Qatar, and I doubt it..

There is no income restrictions on two foreigners being married in Qatar. U can come here visit visa (on arrival) and can file a marriage application in Sharia court. They will send you for medical and then you can get married. As far as you staying here with him on permanent basis is concerned. He needs to sponsor you as his wife and that RP needs minimum 10K salary. However you can stay on visit visas sponsored by him for up to six months. But do make sure about the points raised by qatarisun as they are pretty much valid points.

Take care

Best of luck

There is a minimum salary requirement of 10000 for him to sponsor you as a resident as his legal wife - he cannot sponsor you as anything else. If the min is not met you may be able to do visa runs but it isn't cheap (airfares etc) over time

I think both must be residents in Qatar. Double check this point. Other than that, you will need Single Status Certificate for sure.

But first of all you will have to make sure, that your fiancée’s feelings are genuine, and he is not after your passport. Let me guess, the guy is younger than you.. Do not answer.. but if I am right, double check his “pure intentions”.. You are new to this part of the world, but I am not, and I know what I am talking about..

And remember, to get married in shriat court is easy.. but for the lady to initiate the divorce is next to impossible. Your husband is the only one who can initiate the divorce, unless he is treating you really bad.. and by "bad" I mean BAD, including physical abuse.. I hope we are not going to get to this point.. but it is better to be warned..

and hey don't get taken aback, think in advance about the settlement you want to get in case of divorce, they will ask you about it during the marriage ceremony..

Happy marriage!

Marriege and and visa are two separate matters. To get marry in Qatarm both of you should have RP. If RP is available both can go to court and get marriege and the income is not a problem. Both of you can stay at their own Sponsorship. However, if you want to be here under your husband sponsorship then he should have at least 10K salary. I think you are clear now.

There are laws, but AlHamdulillah where there's a will there's a way. And I don't mean illegal ways, I mean perfectly legit ways! Perhaps Mr Jerk is really ignorant of how to get about it all or is just living up to his nick. Talk to him!

That BS, that you can't marry him coz his salary is 7,500.. of course you can...you can get on arrival visa to Qatar... Its just that to get you a Residence permit as his wife, he needs to have minimum salary of 10,000 .. thats it

Wish you all the best!! :)

So people can't get married because of this ? Doesn't make sense :( wow this country has strange laws, citizens have to get persmission to marry foreigners, and foreigners can't marry if they don't have high salaries :D
