Hello:
My name is Clara and I am Portuguese. My husband received a proposal to work in Qatar, but I'm a little afraid, because it is a country in almost everything differently, but both quew worry me is the language, because my English is mt basic meters, and the question to be doing nothing worries me.
The issue of language is my main concern, but surely there are courses in English.
I would like to know what to do to pass the time.
Thank you. I would get answers.

I don't know why you are worrying about your English mariaines08. It's better than most here on QL from what I have read on your posts so far.

Hello to all:

First of all thanks for the answers. My husband will soon do the last interview there in qatar, let's see how it goes.

Still afraid of English, but I will certainly overcome this barrier, with a course and with the day to day practice. As for the passage of time without working will be difficult because I'm used to working and to be voluntary, but without English there is more difficult ... but everything will be solved.

Alumni, if all goes ahead I will send a message to contact more Portuguese.

Thank you all. I will give news.

Alumnar...Being not included in the "social lives" because you have a British hubby is far better than being excluded for being the Mom of a special needs child...

But anyway you or I might not be missing much in life, actually... :-)

Hi Clara,

I am portuguese too and have been in the Middle East for 8 years. There is a big portuguese community here and you will easily fit in as both you and your husband are portuguese. The situation is much different for me as I have a British husband and we are therefore not included in their 'social lives'.

You will see for yourself how safe Qatar is and you can always spend time on volunteer work (for example with animals by helping support groups like Cats im Qatar or Dogs in Doha). You can do English courses online or through Institutions in Qatar. There is really a lot to do here in cooler months for outdoor lovers.

Send me a private message if you want and I can put you in touch with other portuguese ladies once you arrive.

Take care and Happy New Year :)

Hi Clara

There are many Portuguese & Brazilians living here so it should be easy to make friends.

I'm sure you can do courses to improve your English.

If you are used to working, it might be a bit difficult, because apart from shopping or doing a sport there is not much else to keep you busy during the day.

Anyway, see it as an adventure and come and see what Qatar has to offer!

Oh dear....A very minor percentage of people here has English as their first language here...Language will not be a barrier to anything here, I promise.

It is a safe country.Traditional, yet modern...

Passing the time will not be a problem if you are working or if you are planning to relax..There is enough to do, friends to be with, places to explore, etc...

And if you like to travel, living in the Middle East is good as it is easier to fly from here to any part of the Globe...

Come over...And enjoy....!
