Pregnant and Not Married in Qatar

Jesse
By Jesse

I'm from the US, and working in Qatar under my own sponsership. I found out when I was back in the US for the holidays that I'm pregnant. I need to find an OBGYN here in Doha, as I will be here for a while yet. Does anyone know if the hospital will give me problems or refuse to see me because I'm not married? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's a matter of time. First, they let us to wear shorts and open sexy tops, then to have alcohol, and then they let the Western Ladies to have as many babies as we want without being married! I don't know if they let the same for Asian-Indian women, probably not.

I read this yesterday but didn't reply cos can't advise and most people would notice that it's been more than 9 months since the thread started. Jesse's probably long gone, after some of your prudent advice (I mean it. No sarcasm there).

As for the dragging up of an old thread, the drag-er had a valid question although I think she might get that helpful doc in a bit of a quandry. Hopefully not.

must be very busy. Day and night. He says he will report "every" illegal activity in qatar. So he is constantly reporting all the people smoking in the malls and the traffic violations? That alone will be a 24 hour a day job.

I don't know if its fact but I have been told a child out of wedlock here gets put in an orphanage as they won't know who the father is! I am sure the American Embassy will tell you to leave have the baby then return, I doubt they lash anyone but again you might have to give up your child not worth the risk.

Try to get a copy of your sister certificate if she is married, or brother whatever... and do some photoshop for you, get a ring in your finger and voila.

I know people that have been married with fake certificate to bring a girl to the country... so this can work for u.

I've been reading the posts regarding pregnancy out of wedlock. My situation is different. I got married here in the embassy and already obtained a marriage certificate from them. I was 3 months pregnant then. Would it still get me into trouble at the hospital (hamad)? I knew a doctor from hamad and he said that as long as you have the proper documents, there's no need to worry but he will still double check for me. Can anyone advise me pls? Better I find out earlier so that I'll know what to do next. Thanks! Would gladly appreciate any help.

If this Mutawa was for real, a little bit of mercy in his heart, would've made him look away and even smile in appreciation for the effort that person made to be out of sight!

He never knew if that person was sick, exhausted, non-Muslim, on medication, a senior citizen or in any other condition.

Haven't they heard that Allah loves His creation even more than a mother loves her children??

If a person was thirsty and tried hiding in a place where he could not be seen and totally out of sight, to have a sip of soda/water during Ramadan, and one followed them in doubt, hoping to report to authorities, I'd say the latter is a sick aggressive ignorant psycho.

THe son of a member of this forum here was reported to the police because of drinking a soft drink during Ramadam in a public place. How she told it, it appears that he had taken the precaution of finding a hidden place in a park where he could sip his drink. Someone saw him and called the police. How pathetic is that?

victimless crime according to you... I am sure "whatever spiritual, commonsense, non-mullah dominated, etc" version of Islam you follow, considers pre-marital sex a crime against religion and society.

I am not judging jesse... but we live in a qatari society and if they think that premarital sex is a crime then it is... and we have to honor it.

She had to have an operation and stayed for 3 nights in the hospital and than got out and went back to work. She did loose her baby.. but she never got introuble...

just got fired a few months after this incident,, i dont know if preganancy had anything to do with it or not.. but just to let you know i am here if you need anyone to talk to ... u can always send me a message.

I don't think they have people at the hospital just waiting for her call...to track her...

of course common sense she is not going to give her name.. just ask a question.. and don't make it from your mobile.. any land line that you can get that has nothing to do with u... how are they gonna find her out of all the females in Qatar... I am sure she is not alone.

Who or what or when she got pregnant with is none of our business she is just asking for help. This is a serious situation in this country so just be careful who you tell... and if you feel better than just leave it is probably the best thing you can do... Trust me you don't want to get caught in this country pregnant without being married... you will be jailed! Many people in jail now for that...

Not trying to scare you... just trying to help you...

beside in the end of all this your American.. your safe... you have the embassy behind you.. you might want to call them and ask about that situation... what you should do ... they will give you the best advice and the only answer to your question.

Cheers....

As for all this advice for her to marry the guy, she may not know who the father is or want to marry him, and if she did want to marry him I'm sure she WOULD be married to him or not looking for advise of being a single mom.

Jesse, even you able to keep that until the expected date, still no way out, the father is from here or there, if you are not married, you will be jailed until you give birth and hundred lashes will be rewarded to you. Don't try to get married here, at your condition, still you wil not be excused of being pregnant before marriage. Go home, and give birth and come back.

... some of above comments are true....being pregnant out of marriage is not accepteable here... yes, you have prenatal check up to some private clinics without askingfor your marriage contract but be careful because some might have ask you for that document later on...

so, better now u have to leave Qatar and go back to your country... or else you will be jailed here if authorities will know your pregnancy out of wedlock....how many months are you pregnant? some airways wont allow pregnant without doctors permit to travel..( if your tummy is noticeable already or if u would tell them u are pregnant) sure they will ask for that doctor's letter..

...actually,,, im pregnant also now ,,,,but married .....its not easy to be pregnant if u are alone and your partner isnt there to assist u... take care.....if u need a friend to talk..just PM me...

I went to Doha Clinic, American Hospital and ohter private doctors and not even once was I asked for my marital status. However the public health centres will ask you one inmediately.

They'll ask for her marriage certificate Happy Happy. And if anyone reported her she risks prison time and possibly lashes. There are a couple of women now who are sitting in prison because they had children here out of wedlock, awaiting lashes and deportation.

Do you have a trusted close friend in Doha? Have you thought about asking them if they have a friend doctor (preferably a foreign one, who comes from the same culture, to understand you better than others) they full trust and can confide to??

But if there is risk, as some members posted here, then I would advocate their opinion of having to leave.

But folks, cannot she say to any clinic doctor she is married? do they check her marriage contract as part of admin paperwork??

Even where she lives, she can pretend, only if asked, that she is married to someone in the States.

Would that work??

Contact a lawyer and ask, or contact labor department, or read about such laws.

You must be careful though, , i don't know, better ask a professional

Thank God she has a country she can return to.

take the advise of everyone here to leave the country as early as possible rather than being deported...it has to be that way, no other options..

SKDKAK, I'm sure there are some people on this site that would report her in a second if they knew who she was. :(

I wouldn't even risk going to a private clinic, can't trust anyone.

And why only Doctors.. could be reported by anyone.

Aren't there more sadistic people in the world than we think

if you are not sure 100% about anything then leave it.

Private clinics have to report on monthly basis.

Are you 100% sure butterfly. Personally I wouldn't risk it, if they suspect something they could report her.

will not check your marital status. YOu can get care while you are here in Qatar, but you must get out before it starts to show and definetely do not risk to have the baby in Qatar

qatarsun..... lash is my topic. u hijacked it.

Or maybe I was late in commenting.

Jesse: do get the he** out of Qatar ASAP. u might get help from a doctor whom u know but that will be unofficial. U cant take chance in this country. come back (If u have to) after ur delivery back home and with a marriage certificate (if not a husband)

Don't go to the doctor, they will report you to the police, go home as soon as possible. That's your only option.

jesse, what cornellian said is right. you have to either leave qatar before its too late or have to get married. Normally these private clinics will not ask for a marriage certificate. but if by any chance u have to go to Hamad, they will definetly ask for marriage certificate.

but generally you will be refused by the doctors, and moreover, they must report this case and you might get lashed/jailed and deported.. it is by the law... but... Qatar is changing...who knows?
