I am moving to Doha with my husband in June and want to join a club. Which club has best facilities and also which club is best for meeting people.

I have looked at the Doha club, The Diplomatic club and the Dana club.
I am looking for a gym, aerobics classes, swimming pool and tennis courts.
All recomendations are welcome.
Thanks

Well recently i had been there and even had some photos from annual golf championship there. There were all the best sports

facilities inside the Sports Club. Anyhow,as i had also read some good articles about the club in http://www.dozensports.com and I will relay compliments to the organizers for there great job.

Hi

Have you tried the Sheraton??? They have indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a varied selection of courses in the mornings and evenings, including spinning, yoga, pilates and body conditioning. Might not be the most modern club but a really good selection of cardio machines and weight training machines. I heard that they will be renovating the gym and beach club this winter. Really wonderful gardens, beach and chilled outdoor pool. Not sure about the cost of membership.

Non members can attend the classes. Go and try out the classes and have a look around. Everyone seems to be really friendly there.

Intercon is now QR5,0000 joining fee and QR17,000 per year membership for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. They increased the price yesterday.

Good luck

well, I suggest if you have a swimming pool nearby, just find an instructor who can go to your place and give the lesson at your convenience.

I know someone who can give swimming lessons.

Well yes but the swimming pool is quite small and they don't have indoor swimming pool. You connot swimm in the beach because the water is dirty. Also, Tennis court is outdoor which will be not good to play out in summer and humidity.

No not my type ...

I only eat once at Ritz and it was for dinner. Their restaurant chef had left and they hadn´t recruited one too. The food was too bad. My dish in particular, was raw.

Now they have a french chef who I heard is wonderful. Must try it again when I return to Doha.

It IS cool, no doubt. But the club is better at Intercon :P

Yes I tried every restaurant in like every hotel in here, in 4 years of my stay. Marriott restaurants are not my thing. Too noisy!

See I told Ritz-Carlton is cool :D

Did you try restaurants at Marriott ?

No I've been to four seaons and found the following:

1. Single membership will cost 12,000 riyals

2. They don't have indoor swimming pool

3. They have problems with tennis courts

4. FullY occupied.

The reciptionist told me all this last week ...

Hahaha

:waving a bigger flag with INTERCON on it:

Ritz is only empty because it's so expensive! If you see two hairdressing salons and one is empty and another has a line of customers waiting, which one would you go to???

Ritz may not be very far from Intercon, but Intercon is CLOSER to Doha! Yay! It is it is it is!

:D

I'm afraid I do not agree with you QatarCat ...

I remember when I went to InterCont in a weekend and it was crowded, but Ritza is quite.

Oh common for God sake, Ritza is far from InternCon??

I assure you it is 4 minutes driving in between ....

I rise a big flag with a Lion Face.. "RITZ! RITZ! RITZ!"

:D

Neither of these places are good for meeting people. I think in terms of meeting people, Garvey's European Club gets the first place :D

We are members at Intercontinental and I think it's better than Ritz in many respects :p

First of all, it's less of a rip-off, second it's not as far (although pretty far anyways) as Ritz, and third - the pool is enormous and the beach is better. But the spa thing in Ritz is awesome, I agree.

Hiya!

I joined "THE SPA" at Ritz-Carlton Hotel and I can say it is the best and most ellegant place for such activities. And they do offer classes for tennis and fitness.

They do have outdoor and indoor swimming pool, indoor tennis courts and two guyms! In addition to spas!

But! It will cost you alot. Couples membership is for 17,000 riyals per year.

Why don't you have a look at the InterContinental ?

Good luck!
