when there is a special occasion, especially when someone from that house comes back from Umrah or Hajj then they will illuminate the house/villa so that neighbours knows & they will come over to meet that person.

Here in Qatar, if they have marriage or any other special celebration, they put the lights on their house. Mostly marriages.
