Waiting time for taxis to be cut
The waiting time for taxis will be reduced from the present 30 to 15 minutes very soon, the director of operations, Karwa taxis, Ali Abdullah Behzad has said.
In an interview to a local Arabic daily, he said that a micro control room had been set up and it would start operating from the end of this month.
“This control room will function 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to phone calls from the public seeking taxis. And it will serve as a link to the main operations room in the company’s head office.”
The company has also finalised plans to expand its fleet of taxis. A tender for the purchase of 300 vehicles is to be issued soon. The new vehicles are expected to be on the road before the end of this year.
He also indicated that 5 taxis will remain earmarked for the use of physically challenged persons and a special VIP limousine will be available for weddings and conferences.

THE CURRENT 30 TO 15 MINUTE WAIT??
THIS IS HILARIOUS. ARE KARWA OFFICIALS REALLY THAT IGNORANT OF THE TRUE PICTURE??

True.

Even Dubai is very much organized in Taxis. There are lot of companies and taxis are equipped with GPS and the whole system is closely monitored by RTA in Dubai.

I wish KARWA to be efficient on a similar level.

bawaqar....I wonder if there is any country with such a problem.

For Eg Mumbai there is Meeru A/C cabs drive on CNG gas - the drivers are honest and excellent, Cabs are Tata Indigo = (Corolla class), and charge RS 13 per kilometer ie QR0.97, and equiped with GPS.

One can get a Meeru cab in such a big, populated and crowded city like Mumbai in under 20 minutes...then why not here!

of course there are Meru Cabs, Gold Cabs, Cool Cabs, (and even Priyadarshini Cabs - run by Women)!!!

The old Yellow taxi of Mumbai run by corrupt drivers are almost on their last leg.

We are all cursing KARWA but do any one has real solution to the problem?

A solution that can be proudly presented to the authorities and is workable / feasible enough as well.

lol baldrick, guess we'll say bye to the rival company even before it came.. it's a shame Karwa does not open it's eyes to what's really in front of them -- lousy service, that's what!

The "Rival" Companies withdrew their bids as it seems KARWA put too many demands and crazy requirements on them. It was in the paper sometime back.

Since all the bids were withdrawn I can only imagine the conditions were rediculous enough that no one else except KARWA was allowed to make a profit.
