medical question on wound care
i have a question for medical people.just want to know whether hydrogen peroxide is safe for wounds or not.
i was working under a wound care nurse, she never used hydrogen peroxide for wound dressings, instead she only used normal saline.she said-what is good for the eyes is good for the wound.please share your opinion.
Hydrogen peroxide is a very old fashioned method of wound cleansing, reasearch now shows that it is perfectly acceptable to clean wounds with tap water.....drinkable tap water that is. Normal saline is method of choice these days though....
H202(hydrogen peroxide) reacts with live tissue releasing nascent oxygen thereby allowing mechanical debridement of any necrotic tissues. its usually diluted with normal saline before using on tissues. can be used in areas where there is collection of pus or for removing any debris in areas of minor trauma due to its mechanical as well as its bactericidal action. but a major disadvantage is its easily decomposed by light.should be used under medical supervision.
saline on the other hand is milder. doesnt have very potent bactericidal effect yet very much used nowadays in the field of dentistry.can be used liberally.
hope this helps..if u have further qs do post it
normal saline is good for the wound because this is sterile water and they are using in all hospital and also for the baby if the baby hae clogged nose its better you use clean it first with with normal saline then put a betadine just leave it open dont cover with gauze..
