More people active in sports in Qatar
Easy and free access to fitness equipment at places like the Doha Corniche has helped increase the number of people practising sport in the country, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported.
The daily quoted a e-survey, which was recently conducted by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) in co-operation with some sports entities, which stressed the positive impact of such easy access to fitness equipment.
The results show that 74% of the total respondents in the survey, take part in sporting activities. Among the Qatari participants, 72% practise sports, according to the study.
The findings reveal that around 52% of Qatari males and 42% of Qatari females are keen to walk along Corniche Street on a regular basis. Among non-Qatari males and females, the corresponding figures are 68% and 58%, respectively, according to the report.
The survey shows that the 30-39 age group comprises the maximum percentage (36%) of sports practitioners in Qatar. As for Qataris, the 20-29 years age group is the one with the highest participation at 33%. In addition, walking and jogging are the most practised sporting activities among Qataris at 59%. Among non-Qataris, it is 45%.
The MDPS e-survey also reveals that around 41% of Qataris practise sports as they want to lose weight while 32% do it to stay in shape. For non-Qataris, the figures are 46% and 27%, respectively.
Meanwhile, the e-survey shows that 49% of Qatari families spend an average of QR1,000 in a month on sports-related activities and equipment, 18% spend between QR1,000 and QR5,000, 2% spend between QR5,000 and QR10,000 and 1% spend more than QR10,000. Around 30% do not spend on sporting activities.
As for non-Qatari families, 58% spend less than QR1,000 on sports in a month while 7% spend between QR5,000 and QR10,000, according to the survey.
Further, around 79% of the participants say they practise some form of sporting activity at their residence and some have fitness equipment at home, which they regularly use, the report added. Source
@Muhammad yasir u can join this.
I am proud to say that i am part of this Zumba/aerobics every friday.......
Unfortunately most of the machines are broken down anyways. Parts lying around the protective soft ground is broken and a tripping hazard at night.
Only the Equipment at the Oryx is actually useful and in service.
i thin it is better to do exercise in Corniche because gyms in Qatar are charging so high that many of us cant afford it....
this is funny... does anyone really think that people do enough exercising in Qatar? Do you think by placing a couple of machines on Cornish lack of exercising is going to be addressed.. come on !!
this pic reminds me my school days PT hours :)
