Supreme Council of Health: Tang in Qatar is safe to drink

All batches of popular drink Tang are expected to be back in the shelves by today with the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) ruling out the possibility of contamination of the product.

Laboratory tests have confirmed that the product is safe for consumption, SCH said yesterday.

The authorities had ordered an unofficial recall of some batches of the product from the local market and collected samples for laboratory tests.

The Central Food Laboratory of SCH received samples of the product collected by the bodies concerned last Friday. All the stocks available in the market were checked at the entry points and huge amount of samples were collected ahead of Ramadan.

The tests and analysis have shown that all the bags are safe and meet GCC specifications, according to a SCH statement.

SCH said video clips were posted earlier on social media showing holes on the foil of Tang tubs. The tests, however, showed that the holes on the internal cover in some batches of the product were added by the manufacturer as a pressure relief system.

Mondelez International, the North American multinational conglomerate and manufacturer of Tang said yesterday that the concerns being raised about the possible health hazards of the drink were baseless.

The puncture marks on the foil seal in TANG tub packs are actually part of the production process and are performed at the manufacturing plants.

Apparently, the foil is punctured to act as a pressure relief valve to protect the quality and safety of the product when transported and sold in high altitude retail environments

The puncture marks are one-way pressure valves (from inside out) that release air from the tub.

The air release system is a global industry quality standard found in all food and beverage products handled in high altitude areas. [The Peninsula]

people are least bothered about their health..all are becoming lazy that is the reason artificial things are dominating...eg: carrot is available cheap from market but no one like to prepare for juice because they will be strong and healthy...hahahaha

@acchabaccha I'm not he only one who knows. But I know one thing it's better to have freshly squeezed Orange juice than Tang with all it's artificial preservatives etc.

Tang ingredients include sugar, citric acid (provides tartness), and less than 2% of: natural and artificial flavor, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), maltodextrin, calcium phosphate (prevents caking), guar and xanthan gums (provides body), sodium acid pyrophosphate, artificial color, yellow 5, yellow 6, BHA.

Enjoy Tang.

Knor: You are right. In my part of the world sugarcane juice is available on roadside stalls during the harvesting season. The juice is nothing but sugar in its most concentrated form. I have seen people who have passed 70 enjoying the juice which they have done all through their lives. They know it has never had negative affects on their health. It is their own decision.

It's up to us to decide on what to do with our own body. Everything was invented/produce/manufactured for profit purposes only. We have a freewill wither to patronized it or not.

Gasoline: Possibly, you are the only one who knows the causes that lead to diabetes. If the intakes of sugar or products containing glucose, could have been a proven cause of diabetes, it would have been common news by now. There are many unknown causes of this malfunction of the pancreas. You should find sometime and carry out a research study for the benefit of mankind!

Great now everyone that drinks copious amounts can be nearer to getting symptoms diabetes. Supreme Council of Health choose to ignore this though.
