i agree with wt, some dealers use semi metallic brake pads and sell for 300 while you can get aftermarket for 200 which are ceramic. showroom parts are a complete ripoff
A mechanic at the dealer will "never" be able to recommend you the best source for buying spare parts. If he does so, he would be damaging his company's business and may end up losing his job. Don't get carried over by such "advice" that appear regularly at QL followed by another "advice" of not keeping your foot on the brake pedal. That gave me a good laugh!
True WT. The common man does not have "that knowledge" and it is as such advisable to go for genuine parts when it comes to parts such as brake pads. Genuine parts are more reliable.
For some items like Brake Pads for a car, I suggest you always go for the genuine ones direct from the dealer or from his agents. They may be somewhat costlier than non-genuine ones but are worth making the extra payment as they are reliable from the safety point of view, and last longer.

I disagree. Car manufacturers have cost and profit in mind. Some after-market products, including brake pads, have better specs than OEM parts.

Try driving through industrial and ask around, there is a place called Uniparts, maybe they can guide you if they don't have the parts.
