Driving in Qatar - After a long gap !

Friends,

I am a Singaporean living and working here in Qatar. I came here last year from Singapore and have not driven in Singapore since 2006. Singapore has an excellent public transport system comprising buses, trains and cabs and I used it while gradually staying away from driving and eventually selling my car.

Now, in Qatar, I wish to pick up driving again here.

Apart from the fact that I may be lacking in confidence (having not driven approx. 11 years) what else do you think I need to think about while picking up driving again here in Doha knowing the fact that I may have to enroll for driving lessons.? Would you have any recommendations / suggestions etc. in this matter and are there others out there who are in a similar situation as mine?

Many thanks in advance for all your suggestions :)

cheers

Thanks Molten Metal, Britonie and acchabaccha :) ......Your responses truly encourage me in this matter :)

As regards acchabaccha's suggestions about buying a new car with a comprehensive insurance, I wish to drive an SUV viz. Toyota Land Cruiser or a Prado. However would it be OK to go for big car like an SUV since I left driving for long?

Thanks in advance :)

Qatar's traffic is very organized. If you have been driving earlier, it should not be difficult for you to here also irrespective of the time lapse. Just follow the rules and be confident. People have been driving here for decades without any incident or penalty. You could be one of them. Try owning a car which can get you comprehensive insurance cover.
