Fourth Ajyal Youth Film Festival to kick off at Katara today
The fourth edition of the popular Ajyal Youth Film Festival, organised by the Doha Film Institute (DFI), will begin in Katara today.
The show will open with a red carpet premiere of the Kazakh film The Eagle Huntress, which tells the story of a young woman, her father and ability of the human spirit to rise above challenges.
The fim’s director Otto Bell and lead actress Aisholpan Nurgaiv are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
The Ajyal Jurors, who are more than 550 young people flown in from all around the world to evaluate the competition films, will also be present.
The competition will run in three categories — Mohaq, Hilal and Bader.
This year, the festival will feature 70 films that highlight the theme of ‘positive social change.’
The line-up will include 24 feature films and 46 short narratives/documentaries, from 33 countries. There will be 42 public screenings as well as 18 jury screenings. There will also be interactive panels and master-classes, red carpets, exhibitions and family activities.
