Movies of the week, at a screen near you...
Hello QLers, it’s yet another weekend and another load of movies has just released around you in Doha. Whatever your interests maybe, there’s a movie to cater to your needs. Here’s a look at this week’s action.
1. San Andreas
Genre: Action/Adventure
Director: Brad Peyton
Cast: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Caro Gugino
It’s The Rock vs Nature, Round 1, people! A deadly earthquake strikes California and Ray Gaines, a Los Angeles Fire Department rescue-helicopter pilot, has to race against time to save his ex-wife and daughter from certain death. This is a movie of disastrous proportions. Are you ready for the ‘rumble in the concrete jungle?’
2. Unfriended
Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Horror
Director: Levan Gabriadze
Cast: Sheey Hennig, Renee Olstead
This is the kind of horror movie that the new generation, who virtually lives inside the virtual world, can easily relate to. The movie mostly happens inside a computer monitor where six friends, and an unknown seventh force, enter into a group chat on Skype. And one by one, they are stalked. The common thread that binds them is that they all had a part to play in the bullying-suicide of a classmate. It’s a creepy tale all right.
3. Maggie
Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery & Suspense
Director: Henry Hobson
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin
What does Schwarzenegger do after he has saved the world from terrorists, prevented a cataclysmic future robotic war and ruled over an American state in real life? Save his zombie virus-infected daughter from near death, of course. Early reviews suggest that the ‘Governator’ still has a few punches left in him. Fingers crossed, unless a zombie has not already got that finger!
4. Jungle Master
Genre: Animation
Director: Xu Kerr
Cast: Victoria Justice, David Spade, Josh Peck
This is a movie that comes from… wait for it, the Chinese shores. Rainie, upset with her mother forgetting her birthday, runs away from home. She gets magically transported to an enchanted jungle, where she meets Blue. They go on an adventure that will see Blue transform into a good leader.
They also get to save the Rainforest from evil boss Cain in the process. Take your kids for it. They’ll enjoy the ride.
5. Welcome 2 Karachi
Genre: Comedy
Director: Ashish R Mohan
Cast: Arshad Warsi, Jackky Bhagnani
Although there have been many movies that focused on Indo-Pak tensions, not many have gone down the comedy route. This film attempts to set the record straight. It follows the life of two Indians who accidentally get stranded in Karachi, without even their passports. Now they have to find their way back to India as an ISI agent chases them.
6. Massu Engira Masilamani (Masss)
Genre: Horror/Action/Comedy
Director: Venkat Prabhu
Cast: Suriya, Nayan Tara, Parthiban
The director, who has given some good hits in the past, has kept the story of the movie close to his chest. If past performances are anything to go by, and watching the trailer, things look promising. It should keep the beefy actor’s South Indian fans happy.
a lot of these films look great
