Al Meera employee fired following butchery closure

Al Meera Consumer Goods Company said that it had sacked one of its employees, who it found responsible for the violation that led to the partial closure of the butchery in one of its branches in Nuaija.

The decision was taken after the company investigated the violation.

The one-month closure of the butchery effective from January 12 was ordered after inspectors from the Ministry of Economy and Trade detected an error in the display of the meat's country of origin, the company said in a statement.

The ministry conducted the inspection in collaboration with doctors from Doha Municipality's Health Control Department.

The ministry said the violation involved "the display and sale of Australian meat as meat from New Zealand" and "the display of Pakistani calf liver as a local production".

"Following the incident, Al Meera embarked on an internal inquiry to inspect the violation, and was able to identify the employee behind it and immediately terminated his services," said the company.

The company expressed "deep apology to consumers for this irresponsible individual act" and pledged "to conduct an overall review of internal rules and procedures in order to prevent such mistakes in future."
