All speed radars and cameras in the country to be linked together soon

Qatari officials, in an effort to make drivers on roads more disciplined, have placed hundreds of permanent as well as mobile cameras around the country.

While it brought the country under one immense radar net, one of the key drawbacks was the huge effort involved in collecting information from these cameras. Officers had to manually collect the information from the cameras’ hard disk.

However, all that could soon become a distant memory as the Ministry of Interior (MoI) is set to inaugurate a central traffic control room which will link all radar and speed cameras across Qatar.

The control room, which will open later this year, is being set up as part of the National Traffic Safety Strategy, reported Gulf Times.

Once the control room comes online, traffic violations will be automatically registered and the violators will be sent instant notification messages, said Qatar’s Traffic Department Director Brigadier Mohamed Saad Al Kharji.

This will replace the old system of collecting violation records and updating the system manually.

He also said that the traffic department was keen to announce daily locations of mobile radars and thus exercise more control over traffic flow.

“The aim is to enhance people's adherence of the traffic rules and regulations and not to issue violations,” he said.

He also hinted that new driving laws could soon come into effect. It could likely include making seatbelts mandatory for people sitting at the back of cars as well as raising fines for using mobiles while driving.

yes brit, if only they could feel or care about what others think of them...i can feel the hate and disgust radiating into my car from every other car near me, when some loser cuts one of us off or is crawling ahead of us while busy texting...i'm usually shy and easy going but i'm not one to keep quiet and back down from a confrontation when my sense of justice and fairness is outraged...but i do feel sorry for the meeker and kinder drivers who just let it go and prefer to just be rid of these selfish and aggressive drivers...ive seen a guy get cut off, then get slapped in the face while his wife and kids watched and he did nothing because he had family and wanted to defuse the situation..that memory boils my blood and haunts me till today and i still wish god had put me in a position that evening to have fought for that guy and teach the other guy a lesson for life...i wish i could be a traffic cop so i could fight for these gentle drivers and put the self important ones in their place...grrr!!!

Mohdata: Sadly these morons think of themselves as above the law and superior to us ordinary mortals .. they think they are being 'cool'

My biggest irritation is not the speeders or the flashing land cruisers; it is the losers who are on their mobile phones and the people who use service lanes to get ahead of traffic and then cut back in, right at the front at the traffic lights when they go green...i have seen countless accidents where the unsuspecting car/truck starts moving and hits these lane cutting losers as they suddenly cut in front... And sad thing is, there are never cops nearby when these people pull these selfish stunts.. Really, if someone that uses their phone or cuts into lanes is reading this, it is my pleasure to inform you that you are the lowest of the low human beings, you cause problems for other law abiding people trying to go about their daily lives and you steal the rights of others by jumping queues and cutting lanes... It may seem a minor thing but it still is violating the rights of others and god will ask you about it... Put your phone down and just drive and be nice to your fellow human beings you lowlife; you're not that important and if you were, you'd have a driver and you'd not be in such a hurry...
