Big relief for parents as six new Indian schools set to open next year

Indian expatriates are among the biggest groups of people residing in the country. Being one of the biggest, one of their constant gripes is about the lack of enough quality school options for their children.

Now it seems as though their long wait for action is finally coming to an end. A senior official at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has said he expected as many as six new Indian schools to open up in Qatar over the course of 2017.

Some Indian schools have been asked to suspend new admissions as the current numbers have already exceeded the permissible level. Hamad Al Ghali, Director of Private Schools Office at the Ministry, said that two Indian schools were given halting orders.

“We’ve asked MES Indian School and Ideal Indian School to not take any new students for the next academic year due to safety and security issues,” Al Ghali was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.

MES Indian School currently has 8,000 students and capacity for only 5,000. Ideal Indian School has 6,000 students on its rolls, more than double the permitted number of 2,800 students.

“No other private school has been stopped from admitting new students for the 2017-2018 academic year. Six new Indian schools will open during the next academic year,” Al Ghali told The Peninsula.

Indian school officials say that they are unable to accommodate all children with their existing capacity.

Actually its great news for Indian including My self.

Because since past 3 months i have contact all most all Indian school and they said they have limited seat and they must consider Managemnt seats , siblings and so on. some school says dont waste your time and it is already full. funny think happen on 21 december of BIRLA school Registration , since morning 6 i was just waiting to register since the school has given time 8 clock , as soon 8 clock the school website was eror 404 and then all of sudden message appeared that all seats are filled and do not approach to the school. that means they have put this message to just the Qatar govt about the add and admission process, but in reality they already filled the required seats. so this news actually welcome news for new year gift from Govt of Qatar.

Of course it is a great news but just like "sharmiclalu" I would also ask the samething. What's the way out for getting admission for next academic year.? School where my child gave interview, told us that they have only 150 seats for kg 1 and against that they have received almost more than 1000 applications.. some other school are full with the siblings quota. If in this situation the school doesn't select my child then what I am supposed to do? Should I waste my child's one whole year waiting for new schools to start and give admission to my child????

I think more school is a good move. There should be competition. At the moment the supply is less.

I agree with Accha's point of view.

Abhiram Ajith : Good point. School should work towards on it.

How ever please go ahead and give us the good news about the starting date of the schools. Children should attend school without any obstacles.

Schools should not demand about the placements for the kids.

Kids are kids.

Please don't deny kids. Give priority to Kids.

Good news. But it will be too good if few indian schools are opened out of Doha like Al khor, umm salal which is easy to reach for people staying out side doha and traffic will not increase further in doha.

Glad I was in school at a time when MES and Ideal, the only two indian schools, had space to spare and we had pakistani, arab and African classmates too. Oh and hey, Indians aren't one of the biggest groups, we are the biggest group; 545000 of us here at last count, with only the 400k Nepalis coming close... Strength in numbers, the rest of you, be scared, very scared haha :-)

Abhiram: Wish things were that way but teaching has now become commercial and schools an easy way of making a quick buck.

A couple of more schools - good news. Many schools have overcrowded classes with no attention given to children with special needs. There are children with ADD, autism, Asperger syndrome and various other disorders. There are no special educators in any of the Indian schools. No service providers also in Doha for the Indian community . The available services are out of bound for the common people. Life at school is hell for these children. Remember-Education is not a service for making money only.

Yes, This is a great news.

QL news- Thank you so much for the post.

Qatar require some quality progress in Asian / Indian schools.

I hope all the six schools will come in to light on time.

Authorities : Please kindly have a look at the possibility of opening at least one more Sri Lankan School. As per my understanding there is only one existing behind Mid-mac R/A.

Due to limited supply and excessive demand, some of these Indian schools hold parents at ransom with unjustified exorbitant fees.....
