Qatar’s General Authority of Customs (GAC) foiled multiple attempts by crooks to smuggle in illicit drugs and illegal firearms into the country.

A total of 46kg of marijuana, 200,000 Captagon pills, two firearms and 2,500 bullets were seized in different operations, reported Gulf Times.

Alert officials seized 46kg of marijuana during seven different operations at the Hamad International Airport, reported The Peninsula.

The customs inspectors in charge suspected the content of some bags and ordered full search, leading to the unearthing of the illicit drugs tightly wrapped in plastic and carbon paper and hidden carefully under the clothes and inside bags of fish and spices.

The Captagon pills were seized when a customs inspector at the Air Cargo and Private Airports Customs Department opened a package in the presence of the addressee and found hollow boards inside which the illicit pills were found.

The two firearms were seized at Abu Smra border post. The traveller who was trying to enter the country hid the 9mm caliber firearms besides the engine of his vehicle alongside 2,500 bullets for machine gun and 9mm caliber.

GAC Chairman Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Jammal honoured 10 inspectors from the Hamad International Airport Customs Department, Air Cargo and Private Airports Customs Department, and Land Customs Department, for the seizure, according to Qatar Tribune.
