GCC national sentenced to six-month jail sentence for fatal crash
A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a young GCC national to six months in jail, and fined him QR50,000, for accidentally killing a person while driving without a valid licence.
As an additional punishment, he was ordered to pay 70% of blood money, amounting to QR140,000, to the kin of the deceased.
According to reports, the defendant took his father’s car, which did not have insurance coverage, and drove it recklessly on an internal road.
There had already been an accident on the road, where two brothers overturned their car after mindless stunt driving. A third car was parked on the road to prevent other cars from hitting the overturned one.
The defendant, while speeding down the road, hit one of the brothers who later succumbed to his injuries.
The court found both parties to be partly responsible and gave out a verdict accordingly.
Here killing looks like business matter. Pay money and close the case.
Plus point : Case finished soon , Victim family got MONEY -(off course not equal to life ) but still some sort of relaxation. Compare to other region in world ,it will take time to proof in court and most possibly victim family loose money to travel around court and police station.
Very sad story.
It'a a cheap price for murder.
Tragic for all concerned. Sadly, many countries do not treat such incidents as Vehicular homicide - In my opinion , they should.
