The structure of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) might have to change in the near future to face upcoming challenges, according to Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah.

Sheikh Sabah made the remarks as the GCC summit in Kuwait City concluded abruptly on Tuesday, instead of Wednesday, with all the delegates leaving
Kuwait after a closed session, reported Al Jazeera.

“We might change the system of the GCC to have mechanisms to better face challenges,” he said, referring to the GCC crisis that officially began on June 5.

Sheikh Sabah also hinted at the possibility of setting up a task force to deal with future rifts within the GCC.

“We’ve been convulsed in the past six months by painful and negative developments, but we managed to achieve calm,” the Kuwait Emir was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.

Earlier, HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had participated in the 38th session of the Supreme Council of Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) at Bayan Palace yesterday.

He took part in the opening session, the closed session and the closing session of the summit, reported Gulf Times.

The meeting was also attended by the official delegation accompanying the Emir which included His Highness Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Personal Representative of the Emir, as well as a number of ministers.

The Emir affirmed that Qatar will spare no effort to achieve the best interests of the people of the Gulf, Arab world and Islamic nations, asking Almighty Allah to grant the Emir of Kuwait the best of health, prosperity and progress for Kuwait under his wise leadership.

Earlier on Tuesday, the UAE had announced that it had formed a new economic and military partnership with Saudi Arabia separate from the GCC.

I’ve never thought this issue will last for more than 3 days because both nations are Muslims but eventually it last 6 months. I pray to Allah the region should be back to its unity.
