HH the Amir witnesses national service operetta
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, witnessed the national service operetta, which included honoring the officers and personnel of the Qatari Armed Forces who participated in the war of liberation of Kuwait and the battle to liberate Al-Khafji, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.
The operetta, which was held at the National Service Academy theater, yesterday, saw the attendance of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and a number of ministers, senior leaders and officials of the Qatari Armed Forces.
The Battle of Khafji was the first major land battle in the Second Gulf War that took place in the city of Khafji, Saudi Arabia and its environs from January 29 to February 1, 1991. The Qatari armed forces had defended Saudi Arabia in the fields of military battles against Iraqi forces during Saddam Hussein's regime.
At the ceremony yesterday, HH the Amir honored Ali bin Saeed Al Khayarin, commander of the Qatari forces who had participated in the liberation of Khafji, by giving him Saif Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Al-Askari. The recognition came for his role in the battle to liberate Khafji.
It was also in implementation of the order of the Amir of Qatar, everyone who participated in the war to liberate Kuwait will be awarded the Order of Military Operations, numbering 2,995 soldiers.
Each of the 1,450 soldiers who participated in the battle to liberate Al-Khafji will be awarded the Medal of Courage, which is given to those who do acts of valor, sacrifice, or courage.
