New petrol station, with unique capabilities, set to open soon in Souq area

After installing long hoses at various petrol pumps, concerned authorities are introducing another innovative technique to reduce long queues at filling stations.

Petrol pumping machines at a soon-to-open Woqood petrol station in the Souq Area near Grand Hamad Street have been equipped with additional petrol lines, which were earlier dedicated to only diesel vehicles.

Motorists with petrol cars can now join in the queue for diesel vehicles. Earlier, this queue used to be in last line of fuel pumping machines at the petrol pump. The move aims to reduce motorists’ waiting time.

The new petrol station will be located opposite the former location of New World Centre, between Al Kabir Street Intersection known as Sword Intersection and Al Kutub Roundabout. It has four fuel pumping machines that can service eight vehicles at a time.

As the petrol station does not have enough space, extra petrol lines added to the diesel pumping machines are set to serve more vehicles in the busy area.

The machines have been equipped with four hoses: Two on either side — green for filling ‘platinum’, ‘gold’ and ‘silver’ petrol; and yellow for diesel. However, the petrol-only filling machines have only two hoses on either side.

The hoses are very long and can reach the fuel tanks of vehicles whether they are fitted on the right or left of the vehicles.

The petrol station, once opened, will ease the burden on neighbouring gas stations. The area has been without a petrol station since the demolition of the one that had been operating beside Sana Intersection.

The new petrol station will also help reduce long queues at the one near Jaidah Tower on Al Asmakh Street. Queues there reach the main road during peak hours.

Works related to the new petrol station services are almost complete. The petrol station also features an Al Sidra convenience store being equipped with refrigerators and other facilities.

“I cannot give you the exact date when the petrol station will open. Only some minor works remain to be completed. The opening will be quite soon,” a worker at the facility told The Peninsula.
