Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) said it welcomes the release of Qatari citizen Mohsen Saleh Saadoun Al Karbi, who was arbitrarily held by authorities in Saudi Arabia since April last year.

Al Karbi was among the four Qatari citizens NHRC has been demanding the release of.

According to NHRC, Al Karbi was deprived of the most basic human rights and had no contact with his family or lawyer. The place of his detention or the charges made against him were not known to his family.

In a statement issued earlier today, the NHRC said that it has been in constant contact with UN bodies, international organizations and the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to demand the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Qatari citizen's whereabouts and to release him.

The committee called on the Saudi authorities to compensate Al Karbi for the harm he suffered during his enforced disappearance.

NHRC has been continually urging international human rights bodies including the office of the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights to intervene and push for the release of the Qatari citizens who have been for forcefully detained by the Saudi authorities.

While welcoming the release of Al Karbi, NHRC also called on the Saudi authorities to immediately release Qatari student Abdulaziz Saeed Abdulla, who has been arbitrarily detained in Saudi Arabia since July 2018 without trial.

NHRC urged UN bodies and international organizations to carry out extensive investigations into the systematic violations and discriminatory measures against Qatari citizens practiced by Saudi authorities.

The committee also called on the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to take prompt measures to release the Qatari student.

Ever since the start of the illegal siege, Qatari citizens have been subjected to severe injustices by the blockading countries — Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Qatar Should take stern action with the assistance of UN against the 4 blockading countries for illegally torturing Qatari citizens. Same should be done for the Al Jazeera Journalists who has been kept behind bars in EGYPT for no reason. #BOYCOTTKSA #BOYCOTTBAHRAIN #BOYCOTTUAE #BOYCOTTEGYPT
