Ooredoo becomes world’s first to test a stable 5G experience via a live network
Ooredoo has become the first telecom company in the world to provide a 5G speed experience using commercial smartphones and a live network, its Chief Executive Officer Waleed Al Sayed said.
While the technology is still not available to the public, the confirmation that it can be done in itself is really exciting.
Ooredoo has been heavily investing in testing and upgrading its Supernet network in 2017, with a lot of emphasis on developing the world’s latest 5G technology, reported Gulf Times.
Ooredoo has been working with world-class partners to develop and test 5G technologies leading up to standardisation and commercial availability in the future.
The tests, which trialled Ooredoo's 5G network speed and latency, helped them achieve incredible speeds exceeding 1Gb per second, reported Qatar Tribune.
“Ooredoo is investing heavily in its network to make sure that everyone in Qatar can enjoy the Internet and its life enhancing benefits. There is no doubt that 5G services will have a huge impact on Qatar’s businesses and people, unlocking speeds for seamless browsing, next-generation business applications, and more. Stay tuned for more important announcements in time for Qatar National Day,” said Al Sayed.
Ooredoo should add more GB to its existing data packs without increasing prices, in a 5G environment.
This is actually bad news for my Shahry 100 + 6 GB data pack.
5G will exhaust my data allowance in a few hours.
