Ooredoo tests a new ‘flying taxi’ with help from its futuristic 5G network
Qatari telecom provider Ooredoo gave the assembled crowd a taste of the future when it tested out several Smart City technology experiments at The Pearl Qatar yesterday.
The true power and speed of Ooredoo 5G was in full display and it wowed the crowd. Among them were a Self-Driving 5G connected Aerial Taxi, 5G Experience Bus, a 5G House Boat and 5G drone delivery, reported Gulf Times.
One of the main attractions was the world’s first Aerial Taxi, which is big enough to transport two people to a destination up to 20 minutes away. It runs with no driver and entirely on the Ooredoo 5G network, reported The Peninsula.

To demonstrate the true power of 5G we tested a number of technologies including a Self-Driving 5G connected Aerial Taxi, 5G Experience Bus and a 5G House Boat.#Ooredoo pic.twitter.com/oGGQlFuysZ
The aerial taxi can fly with a speed of up to 130kmph.
With the Ooredoo 5G Bus experience, passengers had the chance to test Ooredoo 5G whilst on the move and enjoy a super-connected commute. During the ride, passengers were connected to Ooredoo 5G with speeds up to 2.6 Gbps, reported Qatar Tribune.

To demonstrate the future of entertainment with 5G, Ooredoo also set up a futuristic 8K VR experience on a modern House Boat in The Pearl. The 8K VR test was ultra-realistic gaming and when connected to Ooredoo 5G offered a seamless experience with no buffering.
“The Ooredoo 5G roll-out is growing daily, but as our customers cannot yet access the speeds and benefits of our ongoing investment, we wanted to demonstrate the true power of 5G and showcase what our technology will do for Qatar in the near future and in the years to come,” said Ooredoo CEO Waleed Al Sayed, explaining about the tests.
Ooredoo was the world’s first communications company to launch commercially-ready 5G and is preparing 1,200 network stations to be 5G-ready.
