Qatar-backed Shard named best skyscraper
The Qatar-backed Shard Tower in London, the tallest building in Western Europe, has been named the best skyscraper in the world after claiming first place in an international competition.
The building has won the Emporis Skyscraper Award that featured more than 300 skyscrapers.
The 310-metre tower, which was 95 percent funded by Qatar, is on the south bank of the Thames River and consists of London’s highest public viewing gallery, offering 360° views of the British capital.
The award is one of the world’s most renowned for high-rise architecture and has been given annually since 2000.
