The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested more than 35 men working in mobile sales and service shops for blackmailing their customers, especially ladies.

The arrested include Arab and Asian people. They used to copy the private images and videos saved in customers’ phones without their knowledge and used them to blackmail.

The CID had got information about some men taking personal images and files from mobile phones of some citizens and residents, especially ladies, and extorting of paying huge amount from them by the threat of exposing them in social networking websites.

Through electronic search and investigation the Cybercrime Combatting Centre of CID could identify that criminals are those working with mobile service centres.

Accordingly, the CID police raided many mobile shops and checked the devices as they got several photos of citizens and residents.

CID arrested more than 35 people from the suspects and seized their devices. They confessed during the interrogation stating that they copied images and data stored on the phones of the customers, especially ladies who gave their phones for maintenance.

The Ministry of Interior called on citizens and residents to take caution when dealing with mobile shops not to keep pictures and videos, and personal data on mobile phones while giving for maintenance.

The ministry also urged not to download any applications through shops especially programs like iCloud that allow service persons to share and access the data in the phones.

These programs usually give access to personal emails through which they can retrieve the data saved in those phones.

Copying images from others’ mobile devices without their permission is a punishable crime in Qatar.

@ Faiza Ahmed: Irrelavant to the community and culture of a region I totally agree with your feelings about the justice to be in black and white. However, the backup tasks without the owner's knowledge is not a good sign at all. They should explain the customer before they do such things and should be deleted without fail. Because, keeping a online system or division to track the shops equipment is not at all easy task. The moral lies on the persons mental behaviour and nature. Since my first entry in Qatar, nowadays i do see more news on web

Yeah.. i too hope so! this is very serious issue now, as it starts from blackmailing,,and now CID guy says, why these shop ppl have backup data? and they have because some customers dont know anything,, they come and say, format my laptop, they have no idea that formating means removing everything not just virus, so some shop ppl for safe side, keeping the customer's data for some period and then they delete it. n now CID said, this is criminal act.. but the shop ppl's intentions are not bad.. hope CID will take right action.

Do anybody know the actual reason, that why crime rates are increasing in Qatar day by day?

I know the reason..

and i wana share with you ppl too

because its important for all of the us especially the expatriates to know the actual reality.

"Qatar have the worst CID ever"

they just want to make news..

they dont care about people.. and i m saying this because these 35 men are actually innocent.. and the actual number of people arrested by CID is above 70... and by spreading this news and picture, Qatar CID did the horrible thing, because NOW actual blackmailers get ALERT..

and the innocent people are in trouble. my close friend is in CID. he explain everything to me, and told me that plzz dont tell anybody.. but why?

if i hide the truth, i will be criminal too.

i born in this country but i have no right to speak the truth? only because i m not Qatari?

More than 70 men are arrested, and only one lady did make the complain, what about these 35 men's families? To safe the one Qatari lady they put so many expatriates women and children in trouble.

Is this a JUSTICE?

n now i m seriously thinking that may be tomorow CID will take me too with them :)... because I told the truth. Telling truth is a HUGE CRIME in Qatar.

and let me tell you one more thing, these 35 men (so called Criminals) didnt even appear to court yet, i mean no investigation is done yet, and their pictures are everywhere, is this seems okay to you ppl?

plz share this news, so next time the actual criminals get arrested and not the innocent one.

P.S: I love Qatar and I stand for TRUTH!

If your mind is criminal then you should sure and had to worry about these kind of issues.

It is impossible to erase data while you are giving mobile to repair because no one have time to shift data on storage devices as you found your device faulty.

So whom are adicated and found these kind of shameless act they should think what they are going to do? Are they doing justice with their work which is the only way of earning for them for their families back to their country?

Dear Friends, brothers and sisters.

Due to any reason if you are giving your mobile or your laptop for repair or for any other service to the third part, please make sure that you deleted all your personal files or transfer to another external device like pen drive or other external hard drive.

Even though after deleting or transfer your personal data from your devices, your files will be hide in your system or mobile and by using so many third party software an expert can retrieve your personal data (deleted data) from your equipment.

So please do the following steps to delete the link or image of your deleted file from your device permanently to avoid the above reported issues.

If you delete the file from the system, as you know, it will go to the recycle bin. Most of us believe that if we remove the file from recycle bin, nobody can retrieve it back. But now a day’s lots of software are available in the market to retrieve the files back, even its remove from the recycle bin. Without knowing this fact, if we send our system to a technician to repair our system they can easily retrieve the data and in the future we can see our personal details which we deleted from the system on YOUTUBE or in FACEBOOK. To avoid this! Please follow these steps.

Step – 1 – Press Win key + R.

Step – 2 – Type CMD.

Step – 3 – Type cipher/W:C:\.

Step – 4 – Press Enter.

Like that you have to do for each drive. “Step – 3 – Type clipher/W:C:\” in this comment C:\ means the name of the drive. For drive D use “Step – 3 – Type clipher/W:D:\”.

They all deserve severe sentences and deportation.

Frequent raids on such mobile shops would reduce such crimes on the innocent people.
