Qatar discuss options to ease traffic congestion

Qatar's Advisory Council has discussed probable solutions with the Ministry of Administrative Development to ease the increasing traffic congestion in the country including changing the working hours of the ministries.

All government offices have about the same working hours and most of them are located in one part of the city that leads to chaos on Doha roads in the mornings and early afternoons on weekdays.

School hours clashing with office hours of government departments adds to the congestion during peak hours early mornings and afternoons.

The Advisory Council has decided to forward the recommendations to the government. They also include suggestions for building multi-storey parking facilities at different locations in the city.

According to a report by The Peninsula, the recommendations ask the government to further restrict some categories of expatriates from acquiring driver's licence.

There is an existing ban on certain expatriates based on job titles in their work permit. However, the ban has been deemed ineffective as companies might be asked to provide transport to their employees to come to work and go back home.

One of the other major recommendation was that some of the commercial activities that remain concentrated in Doha should be taken outside the capital city.

What do you think of these recommendations? What do you think is the best way to ease traffic congestion in Doha?

The Timings idea is flawed. Why you will ask?

What do you do the rest of the time they are not implemented? Such a weekends?

Some Things that have to be done are:

1. Look at traffic light timing, I seen many inconsistency on how long the red lights are on.

2. Widen Road in some places, especially going to the right or left. One of the lead cause of traffic build up is because drivers cannot go right or left at the traffc lights becuase other, cars are blocking them because of a narrow road turning.

3. Get rid of Roundabouts people don't know how use them here anyway.

4. Drivers should also be punished for driving below the speed limit, we have all seen before some driver in the middle lane driving at 40 Kmh, of 80 Kmh road.

I'm sure other issues are the cause but it's a start.

The best way is to speed up construction of the METRO to open up sooner than expected and ease traffic congestion.

(1) All C ring road signals should have flyover bridges (example: one more midmac bridge from mashriq bank to jarir for Ramada signal.

(2) present salwa road also a very good example

(3)Day by day traffic will be more not less ! its not matter for controlling the traffic or changing route for buses or others***

(4) may be my suggestion require drafting but its helpful for traffic flow for future upcoming events,

Revised:

While all of us are waiting for the METRO to be operational, one of the best solutions to ease the traffic congestion is to apply vehicle color codes .

Car plate last digit assignment:

1&2 Sunday

3&4 Monday

5&6 Tuesday

7&8 Wednesday

9&0 Thursday

For example, if the last digit of your car plate is 1 or 2, it means you cannot use your car every Sunday .

Excluding Fridays and Saturdays as these are the regular rest days for the majority of the residents.

While all of us are waiting for the METRO to be operational, one of the best solutions to ease the traffic congestion is to apply vehicle color codes.

For example, the last digit of your car plate is one (1), the first working day of the week is Sunday, thus, you are not allowed to use your car on that particular day.

It does not include Fridays and Saturdays which are the regular rest days for the majority of the residents .

1. Convert all roundabouts to intersection with signals in main roads except streets inside residential areas.

2. provide metro rails along main routes inside city.

3. Buses connection all metro station and streets inside the city.

4. separate bicycle lanes in all roads.

5. provide plenty of parking lots / grounds near high rise buildings, malls, restaurants.

6. Develop smart cities in outer Doha

7. metered call taxis

8. Control number of vehicles instead of controlling drivers by profession.

school timings has to be adjusted. instead of torturing the kids to wait for the bus at as early as 5 and 6 in the morning, start the school at 9 AM and make it strict to use the school bus.

most of the working class go against this because they want to drop kids to school on the way to office.

another suggestion is to make proper use of the " Westbay Bus" plying around Westbay area.

Public buses definitely need a wake up call

Buses! Doha needs a proper bus network. Buses that run on time and come regularly. It's the quickest and most cost-effective solution.
