Qatar government’s amnesty period comes to an end today
The three-month amnesty period announced by the Qatari government on September 1 formally ends today.
The Search and Follow-Up Department at Ministry of Interior is gearing up to tighten their grip on people who are staying back in the country violating existing residency laws. An extensive inspection campaign is expected to be launched soon to bring illegal residents to book.
The MoI has so far not announced any extension to the amnesty scheme and stricter action will start soon.
The MoI had run an extensive awareness campaign, in several languages, to encourage illegal residents to go back to their home countries without fear of action against them.
The campaign was organised in various languages including Arabic, English, Hindi, Bengali, Nepalese, Indonesian, Tagalog, Urdu, Sinhalese, Tamil and Malayalam.
