Qataris prefer government jobs over private sector
The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has a long list of Qatari job-seekers who want to land government jobs.
The list has been referred to the newly set-up Ministry of Administrative Development.
The list of those keen to take up private jobs has climbed down below 500 as many have landed employment.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs said most Qataris seeking private jobs have been accommodated in the banking industry followed by petroleum, telecom and insurance sectors.
According to The Peninsula, the ministry’s efforts and coordination with the private sector on the issue of jobs nationalisation have borne fruit.
It was also found that Qataris don’t like to join sectors like agriculture, fisheries and utility supplies.
Among other private jobs they abhor are those to do with air-conditioning, cleaning, general administration, cooking gas business and social security department.
Some 87 percent of the respondents to the survey said they preferred government jobs due to privileges like allowances, high salary, and post-retirement benefits.
One of the respondents, Mehni Al Dosri, told the daily that the private sector generally does not trust Qataris and the general impression with them is that they don’t like to work.
He said adequate training should be provided to Qatari job-seekers so they could be absorbed in private jobs. “There isn’t enough Qatarisation in the private sector,” said Al Dosri. [The Peninsula]
