Sick of traffic? G-Ring Road is finally open
South of Doha, G-Ring Road, an expressway that cost around QR 4 billion, opened for travelers on Saturday. According to a top Ashghal Public Works Authority official, its use will ease traffic by at least 50%, though that of course remains to be seen.
With five lanes in each direction, the new road connects the Hamad International Airport to the Orbital Highway, extending about 22 km. It is also connected to the Al Wakra bypass, which will aid traffic flow significantly, and has three important entrances to the Industrial Area in the South.
Blessedly, G-Ring Road has 48 km of pedestrian and cyclist paths, a feature that tends to be overlooked in certain places.
Some work remains to be completed, including eight interchanges along the road, which are set to be up and running by July 2017. The road also features 29 bridges and 18 underpasses. One of these bridges, at the Umm Beshr interchange, is the highest in Qatar, standing about 36 meters above the ground.
Almost 90 percent is already opened to traffic though, and this should hopefully help the traffic situation a great deal. It is also an important step for future traffic, as it has been made to absorb traffic expansion for the next 30 years.

Still not fully open the new road in all sides, only service roads so means no used yet! unless you are coming directly from the HIA expressway. Been stuck from traffic for an hour..
Where is it guys?? i dont see it on google maps..
where is tjis ghosr G ring road...i live in wikair in ezdan..today i have seen the worse traffic jam in years ...barwa village junction singnal closed and all traffic is pushed on thr HIA expressway making it worse...i wish they had not posponed the bridge connecting sharq to sheraton area....this should have been done long back before making all skyskrappwr building in west bay and pushing all the traffic in one corniche....total mess..
I work in GWC Warehousing Park in Bu Sulba near Al Wukair. Saturday to Thursday, I travel 2 kms through the dessert road and connects the Logistics Village Main Road and thereby connecting to the Orbit Highway and exits to Street 52, Industrial Area. That's a FANTASTIC 5 lane road.
Traffic will gradually decrease to 50% at least within the next 3-4 months. Its just that the ppl should get used to it.
i am not sure may be it will be better when it will open fully as yesterday it was opened partially but it was really worst yesterday.
Need to check this route out...this may become my daily bread-n-butter route from today.
