Tang removed from some retail outlets in Qatar

The authorities have ordered a temporary recall of Tang, a popular fruit-flavoured drink from the local market.

The municipal inspectors have asked all outlets to remove the product from their shelves, it is learnt. The reason for the recall was not known since no official statement was available.

Food inspectors on Friday collected samples of the product from the market for laboratory tests following suspicions about potential health risks.

With a history spanning more than half century, the US-made drink has been in high demand since the onset of summer, said traders.

Municipality inspectors visited several shops on Friday evening and asked the staff to remove all Tang stocks. They didn't clearly explain the reason but said samples have been taken for laboratory tests and a final decision will be announced by Sunday.

Tang, that is available in different fruit flavours, has been extremely popular among all segments of customers, including citizens and expatriates, he said.

Attractive Ramadan and summer offers on the product have been available in all leading shopping outlets. There are many alternative products in the market, however, they are not as popular as Tang.

The recall has also sparked a discussion on the social media. "Why have they decided to take the product off the shelves just before Ramadan," read a comment.

While some raised suspicions about the motive behind the recall, others appreciated the decision saying it is a precautionary measure to protect public health. [The Peninsula]

nowadays packed or bottled juices contain more preservatives which is very harmful for the health....most dangerous is pepsi and Coca-Cola etc which destroy the intestines result in stomach cancer.....consuming atta (wheat flour waste) used for preparing perotta will give no energy instead give cancer and various diseases...pls avoid atta (waste sold by Europeans).
