Are there jobs for new nurses?
I am a nurse from Philippines. I graduated and passed my country's board exam for nurses last year so I am a registered nurse here. I also recently got my license as an Intravenous Therapy Nurse (IV Therapy Nurse) here.
I have no working experience yet but I am applying to be a volunteer nurse for 3 months in a provincial hospital in my country. My dad lives in Qatar and works as a mechanical plant tech in a hospital under HMC (used to be in the main Hammad hospital) and my aunt is an ICU nurse in the main HMC (Hammad hospital).
My dad wants me to go to my country's Prometric Testing Center and take the Supreme Council of Health Qatar (Prometric) exam for nurses (and I heard that it isn't hard to pass) and he'll pay the $200 exam fee. Is it a good idea to really take this exam while I still have no experience?
What are the future possibilities/opportunities if I pass that exam, can I get a real job as a nurse in Qatar? It is quite hopeless to get a paid nurse job in my country, not unless you volunteer for like 2 years... :( That's why I and my dad are desperate for myself to just gain working experience directly in a hospital in Qatar to later be able to apply in Hammad (HMC). I've had a 2-week vacation in Qatar with my family in 2009, and I think his plan B if I can't have a working visa, is to get me a visit visa again then just extend and extend if I still can't get a job. He's willing to pay for my airplane ticket etc.
Should we go on with this plan or do I really have to suffer working in my country for years as a volunteer with absolutely no payment or even allowance?
Hi everyone. if you are looking for a nurse job vacancy in a medical center, you can contact me. with license, general scope, no dental exp need, single is preferable and Filipino only. thank you

Hello! I've asked this before here. I'm from the Philippines. I worked at the Home for the Aged as a nurse there, for 2 years. Is my experience acceptable or do my certificate of employment acceptable to apply data flow in the Supreme Council of Health or in Hamad? Please, I need an advise.
Hello! Can anyone please help me, I am a Filipina nurse and I am planning to go to supreme health on Monday to process my data flow, but no one is answering the hotline. I just want to ask which documents should have DFA authentication and what is CAV? Feeling helpless,, Please email me: [email protected]
hi! Need help here. I received the result of my evaluation for license here in Qatar. My application is rejected and it says that I need 4 months training. Where can I get the training so that I can apply for re-evaluation after 4 mos. Thank you for your reply.

Quick question.. Is there a possibility that I will get the chance to be hire in HMC?
Am a male nurse from india. I have 7 years of experience in relevant field. I hv passed prometric exam. Now am working in a company as a industrial nurse from the month of june 2013. I have nurse visa too.. Now I need to get nurse license for that what I should do?? My company does not have de clinic license n my visa is under de same company.. Is their any way to get license???
yes you can try by submitting your cv at the hmc hr department located beside retaj residences near the womens hospital.
hi, try to apply in Qatar Airways, my friend who just recently moved in to his country, registered nurse and just graduated a year ago, was got in QA as medical receptionist in QA tower one.
To mr richard hope you answer my previous question. If I have a chance to apply in hamad while working as a nurse on a private clinic here in doha just got my license 5mos ago. Thanks!
hello richard iim in the process of sending my school and employment certfcte to HmC what will I do then.. since the school n my employers does not want to shoulder my expenses on sending my certificate in Qatar
Are you now working in Doha? As a nurse?
same sentiments here. as sir richards says its better to be hired overseas. im sending my CV through email and walkin but seems no one interested. lol. im on the last month of my visit visa and now thinking to change my career path than to go back home hopeless and nothing. im not closing doors to anyone. just be brave to face consequences once ur here. its just a matter of luck and hardwork. nevertheless you can still try.
theres no successful man who doesn't experience failure..
Tnx a lot sir richard..ill try to send my cv in other private hosp or clinic when im there in qatar..good luck for me.tnx
Tnx a lot sir richard..ill try to send my cv in other private hosp or clinic when im there in qatar..good luck for me.tnx
Sir richard, i think i am in a little hurry for i want to join my husband the soonest possible time. So i will take the husband sponsorship for it will get me in qatar faster.Do you happen to know on how i can apply in hamad hospital? Do you know what documents should i bring from the philippines? I already have my red ribboned documents like transcript, diploma, prc cert and license, nbi with me when i go to qatar. Any tips in applying. Thank you.
with regards to salary, for private clinics, the salary is the same even if you have license or not. it is not true that if you have medical license, your salary is higher than without license.
Sir richard,i didnt try to apply in unistaff because if i apply overseas it takes long to wait..but i dont know that you have good benefits if you're hired overseas than local..anyways i try my luck in looking for a job even in private clinic..but they told me that if you are applying that you do not have license yet.they offer you a low salary.and if you have your license now they offer you much higher.. Am i correct?
to DONA013- its better if you will hired overseas. you will received all the benefits unlike if you are local hire. if you are not in a hurry, i would suggest to try to apply at unistaff or jrt agency. who knows you will be selected.
usually verification process takes a minimum of 3 weeks but the problem is the time the sch will process your documents and your application for the medical license. we undergo also with the application of the medical license, we submit our application since december 2012 but until now, most of us has not received our medical license. some of us already received the license but others are not yet. it really depend on the processing time of the sch. have you tried to apply in unistaff or jrt agency? they are the authorized agency if you are applying for government hospitals.because once you are here, you can only apply thru private hospitals or clinics.
sir richard..im going to qatar tomorrow with biznes visa..im planning to apply for work there.im a nurse and i had already may prometrics..i have 2yrs exp.when im in qatar i have to apply for data flow.i had already done all may docs for red ribbon authentication.my question is how long it will process may data flow? how long will it take for the verification, they will call the hospital to verify for your experience or they will send a letter?tnx for your reply..
Hi i have been reading your posts and I hope you can enlighten me in my concerns. I am a nurse here in the Philippines for 4 years. My husband got an opportunity to work there in qatar just this year for qatar airways. He will be sponsoring me once he got his PR. I am interested in applying in Hamad hospital but i intend to make a move on the application once i get there in qatar, however a friend of mine who is not from hamad told me that a group from hamad is coming here in the philippines to conduct an interview. I really dont know if i should try to apply to that or just wait for my husband's sponsorship and apply there once i am in qatar. Thank you.
Since you are on visit visa, you can only apply thru private clinics or private hospitals. Hamad hospitals only accepts applicant who has residence visa, under husband visa or fathers visa. They do not accept applicant who is under visit visa.
hai richard i am a graduate nurse on visiting visa in qatar having 2.6 years experience, passed prometric, data flow is progressing , can you help me to find nurse job in hospitals , companys or clinics in qatar. i need your valuable advices
[email protected]
Hi
Ineed nurse to care my baby 2 month , for full time for 2 month if you interesting just send your phone No by Email
Thank you
its better to apply in agency. if you will apply here, it will be a local hire unlike if agency in the phils it will be overseas hire. benefits of an overseas hire is better than local hire besides, you cannot apply in HMC unless you are on husband visa or fathers visa. hmc is not accepting applicant with family visit visa, tourist visa and business visa.
hi, im currently working as staff nurse here in singapore for 2 years + plus already. i have hspital experience also in philippines for 3 years plus. im planning to move in qatar because my fiance wants me to be there. i just want to know how to apply in hamad haspitals in doha and what are the requirements or exams i need to take . can i apply directly or i need to apply in agency. thnks!
Yes sir i have 4 years experience already the only problem is that i have a gap from my last experience.thank you so much sir.hope i will not encounter any problems in applying my dataflow and license.have a nice day.
for applying a license, you should have a minimum of 3 years work experience. since you have a gap of 8 months, be sure that your experience is enough for the application of your license. you have to finish first your dataflow verification then after it was finish, you apply for a job first before you apply a medical license because in applying a medical license, there is a portion in the application form that the employer will be the one to answer it.
Sir thank you for answering my question.i hope they'll consider my application eventhough i have 8 months gap.but sir what about applying the license, will i encounter a problem because of my situation?
based from our experience before when my wife applied for the dataflow, you should not have a gap of 1 year. in your case, you still have the chance but be sure that there is somebody from your previous company who will answer and verify the dataflow verification( you have to include the previous work experience in your dataflow application so that it will be the one who will provide the data once the dataflow verified your experience.
hello richard000.i want to ask if theres a required working gap experience in applying dataflow and license in qatar.my agency told me that it would've take longer to process my dataflow and license since i have 8 months working gap.plssss,,i need your help if i could still pursue my application.
Hospital and clinics here does not accept nursing assistant. They only hire full time nurse but you can still try. Im not closing doors for you.
Mr Richard000 Thank you, I find your answers very helpful. I am also a newly graduated nurse with no experience, but I do have IVT license and BLS card. I am planning to take the prometric exam this coming August. Since SCH require at least 2 years experience for licensing, can I at the very least start working for a hospital as nursing assistant and then maybe after a few months, they can absorb me as a nurse? i hope you will reply.
for now they only consider 6months working gap..mine is 6months and 6days gap only but they told me that they will still ask verification section if this is still allowed..like what?im interviewed this june..it's not my problem anymore if they gave me the offer a month later..urggg
hi im a young nurse from cyprus with 1 year postgraduate experience im trying to leave from my country and work to qatar.i heard that for europeans its easier to get a job there is it true? and i want to ask if was working as a nurse during my studies(pregraduation) it will count as experience? 1 year experience its enough? thank you in advance
To mr richard im reading your post and they were very helpful in any queries for our kabayan nurses here in doha. I just want to ask if i have a better chance to apply as nurse in hmc as i am currently employed in a private clinic here in doha and just recently got my med license from sch. From where can i start my application? Thanks!
I am not sure about a gap of 17 months but you can still try. 17 months is equivalent to 1 year and 5 months. you still have a chance but the problem is, how long it will take the process before they will hire you because when my wife applied before, HMC told us that they only accept applicant with a gap of 1 1/2 years which is 18 months.
Hi! I'm new to this forum. Mr Richard000, how about having a working gap of 17 months? i have submitted my application at HMC yesterday. I have a working gap 0f 17 months due to pregnancy and motherhood shall I say. My visa is 5 year residency sponsored by my husband's company.I have 3 yers clinical exerience in the gulf. will hamad consider my application?
thank u..
oh ok. now I get it, thank you so much richard000! :)
definitely they need the prometric exam but you can tell them that you are on the process of getting it if you still have not yet taken the exam. its better if you personally apply as walk in applicant, in that case you have the advantage of getting to know the clinics you are applying. sometimes, they conduct on the spot interview, who knows you can passed it and definitely got the job.
oh I see. I haven't tried yet except for qatar-med. I already sent my CV onlince. and also to hospitals like Al Alhi and some more. And I receive no reply, I see now why. In mid-march I'll have time to visit those clinics you suggested. But they still need the prometric exam right? or not?
hi zeeeehra- since you have 8 months experience as volunteer, have you tried to apply in any clinics here in doha? i said clinics because hospitals are not accepting applicant with a 8 months experience as volunteer. have you applied already to the following clinics like qatar medical center, queen medical center, al safa polyclinic, al shefa polyclinic, apollo clinic, family medical center.
hello Angel! we're in exactly same situation right now. I also graduated last year and no working experience, but have a 8 months volunteer experience in the phil. the difference is that I'm already here in Doha. I'm kinda struggling now in finding a work or even a experience in any hospital here. I just don't know where to start or what's the plan...can someone share your thoughts?
thanks a lot richard..
i will add you in my buddy list if its okay with you.
there is no licensing for HMC. once you are selected and hired by HMC, HMC will give you 6 weeks to complete their verification and credentialing. HMC will give you forms to fill up then you will send that form to your school for the verification of your academic documents and another forms to the PRC for the verification of professional license. after the school and prc verified and fill up the forms, they will send it back to HMC in a sealed envelope. you are not allowed to send it personally to HMC. only the School and the PRC can send.( the problem is? school and prc does not want to send it because they will shoulder the expenses for a courier. i will tell you what to do when your on that part). if there is another question? dont hesitate to ask.
Yes, it's one of the locations you mentioned :p I think it's more than an hour, I'm not sure, but my dad doesn't go to Doha using his quite old car 'cause he said it might not reach Doha lol
Angel..
If your point of reference is Doha, you can reach to any border in less than an hour (not all) of your driving at top speed.
But if that hospital is located somewhere in alkhor, dukhan, shamal, fuwayrit then that would take about an hour.
You can get across boarder to boarder in less than on hour and from north to south in less than 2 hours disregarding traffic.
Qatar is approx. 85 kilometers across and 185 kilometers long..
Richard, I don't think it is that hospital. My mom (whose last visit in Qatar was last month) said Al Ahli is a new health center or clinic quite near my dad's place, and my dad mentioned I will live in his place so the Al ahli is most probably not in Doha since the location of my dad's present house and work is hours away from Doha.
If I am correct, no, and I don't think it's called "licensing". All exams are done in Qatar (I think in HR), like all other processes applicants of HMC have to go through, and it' all just for qualification to HMC, not to have a "license" in HMC 'cause I don't think there's such a thing, although I could be wrong. But I'm almost sure my aunt didn't have to take an exam while she was still here. She simply passed her requirements to HMC I think through my dad, then months after she got hired, she finally flew to Qatar.
richard..
noted.. but can she take the licensing of hmc under visit visa?
@ Angel..
do they have this licensing of hmc in pinas as well?
thanks a lot Angel..
that would help a lot.
ill inquire as to when they will conduct the exam.
AL AHLI HOSPITAL. the biggest private hospital in doha. most of their patient are employee and staff of government company like QP, RASGAS, QATARGAS, QATALUM and others.
My dad called moments ago and he reassured me that I won't be going in Qatar without a clear job awaiting me. He already has print copies of all my documents which I sent through e-mail, and he'll be the one to submit my files and secure that a hospital/clinic is going to hire me. He also said something about how the employers make the training/employment certificates whatsoever.
I think he said Al Ali Clinic or something... He said it's not a small clinic and the smallest salary is 3,000QR. Judging by the way that he talked about it, it sounds like he has connections in it.. So yeah, final decision is, I won't be going to Qatar and just take chances without certainty. I will just go there once he has secured a job for me in a clinic/hospital. He also told me to continue with my volunteer application here. He said the clinic/hospital will call once I am needed then he'll buy the ticket and I'll leave my volunteer job.
I am planning on taking the Prometric Exam on April and just hope on luck as we all do I guess... :p
@tigabaguio: Yes there are 2 Prometric Testing Centers here, one in Makati and one in Cebu.
Prometric Testing Center
Ateneo Professional Schools, 130 H. Dela Costa St., Salcedo Village, Makati City
Telephone No.: (632) 892-0383
and/or
Prometric Testing Center
Tread, Inc., Suite 308, Centro Maximo D., Jakosalem St., Cebu City
Tel no. 032-2535514
just an info- HMC is not hiring a medical staff under visit visa. they only hire under husband family residence visa. unless they really need a medical staff, wherein there is a consideration. HMC does not need also the prometric exam or medical license. they have their own licensing and credentialing verification.
thanks richard..
My wife will be here soon for a visit visa. I'm just maximizing time if she can take it in pinas so she can apply early during her stay here.
Again thanks..
to tigabaguio- i am not sure if there is a prometric testing center in the philippines. you can check it online www.prometric.com if there is a testing center or you can ask the pearson vue testing center located somewhere in makati if they have prometric exam. you can check also online if when and how often they conduct the exam but i am sure that they do not offer review or refresher course because when i took my prometric exam here in doha, they did not provide us any reviewer or mention that they are offering refresher course but i am glad that i passed my exam.
Richard..
May I ask if they are conducting the pro-metric exam in pinas, when and how often, and do they offer review or refresher course for this exam.
Im calling unistaff but they ain't attending the line.
And btw, your comment helped a lot, at-leas I will not let my wife to exceed 1 year for her sabbatical leave just in case she is not lucky to find a job during her visit so as not to void her 11 years of experience.
Great point. I didn't know that non-hospital nurse experience also counts, I might as well try my luck here first on whatever nursing job and see where it'll take me. Thanks a lot :p
You have a better chance of being hired here, after you have legitimate paid work experience in your home country. You are in the same situation as thousands of other new graduate nurses around the world, and you seem to be trying to find a way to avoid this reality. Students in the US are waiting on average, two years to get into Nursing school, and 1-2 years after graduation, to find a job. the economy is bad the world over, all part time jobs are filled by Nurses who are trying to feed kids, Nurses who left Nursing, or retired, are coming back to work. Having no experience, your application goes behind theirs.
What would you do if you did NOT have a father and aunt in Qatar?
Another option is for you to try to find work at a non hospital facility in the Philippines, such as a retirement home, school clinic, embassy clinic, long term care rehab facility. This all counts as work experience. It is easier for an experienced nurse to change areas of nursing, than for an inexperienced nurse to be employed in a foreign country.
The bottom line, in my opinion, is that graduating, passing exams, and licensing qualifies you only to START your real education. Suck it up young lady, get back in line, and do it the real way. Ask your aunt about the concept of paying your dues in Nursing. If I were to review your application, with no experience, my first question would be 'What's wrong with her that she wanted to leave PI so bad, or that PI didn't want her?' To graduate, and leave immediately without experience, is counter to common sense, and common practice. There are no shortcuts, there is no substitute for legitimate experience. Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure.
Good Luck.
Nancye, thanks, I haven't fully decided, and I can't decide without my dad's approval. What do you think is best that I should do though? Like I said, to gain experience as a paid nurse in a prominent hospital in my country, we have to work as volunteers for a very long time and even that can't assure us paid jobs in hospitals.
Is it best for me to just bear with the years of volunteering and wait till I get hired here? What's your personal opinion on the steps I should do? Thanks.
Also, be aware that there is a 'sharing agreement' between most of medical facilities here. The agreement is that they will not hire nurses who have worked in other facilities, NOC not withstanding. This is so that new facilities don't 'poach' employees when they are first opening, and employees don't jump from job to job. So, if you take a job at one place, and don't like it, you may find it very difficult to ever change jobs.
I disagree with your decision, but you seem to have decided to just come and take your chances. At least richard000 is sharing his experiences with you. Good Luck.
sure no problem. just send me PM when you have questions.
That's better! Thank you so much! In my country, the highest salary of nurses I've heard of is the equivalent of less than 2000QR, and that's just the senior nurses with the highest positions I think. So I am fine with lesser salary compared to Hamad as long as I can get the experience I need. Thank you so much, I'll follow your advice and just hope for the best. In the meantime, I might go on with the volunteer work here (to gain personal experience and have the vague chance of being hired) while my dad is finalizing his decision of whether he will sponsor me or otherwise. I hope you'll still be browsing the forums though by the time I have another query. :p
Thank you :D
i think there is problem with the sch website. i cant even access my application for the medical license. i saw a post last week in QL ads that they are hiring a nurse even without experience but expect the salary for inexperience nurse would be low compare to those with experience. the best thing you can do if you really want to come here and work as nurse is to ask your father to sponsor you a family visit visa, then apply in any clinics and tell them your status, that you are fresh graduate and no experience working as a nurse. tell them also that you already finish the prometric exam and your on the process for the medical license and we hope they will support you and provide you the necessary requirements in your application of a medical license.
before you can apply for the medical license, you have to apply an evaluation. you have to provide a copy of all your documents and submit it online. there is also a portion there wherein you future company are require to fill it up. if the clinics really need you, they can provide you the necessary certificate to support your application.
Thanks a lot for answering my questions. I am confused though, may I ask, in your own opinion, what do you think should I do?
I wonder if this is acceptable: I will register and pay for the prometric exam, then take it. If I passed and managed to be in Qatar (either by visit visa or working visa), what is the next step I can do (as a nurse without experience) so that I can work as an inexperienced nurse legally? Like, should I submit the test result to SCH so that my license will be at least "on process" even though I can't really do the final steps since I haven't gotten the required years of experience? Should I convince a hospital/clinic that is willing to hire me, to give me a training certificate?
Just what exactly do you think are the appropriate steps I should do? Thanks a lot! =)
P.S. The SCH website isn't accessible.. Even yesterday, I tried visiting it but I can't access it.
it is not illegal to work as nurse but the problem is as per SCH guidelines, hospitals and clinics are not allowed to hire a medical staff without having applied the medical license. you can apply and work as long as your medical license is on the process but be sure that when you apply for the medical license, you have already enough experience to support your application. you can check the minimum experience required by the SCH in applying a medical license. www.sch.gov.qa. as what my previous post, only hamad hospital can hire a medical staff even without the medical license or prometric exam as long as you meet the minimum requirements of 2 years working experience.
sometimes, there is an options wherein the hospitals or clinics provide a training certificate for their applicant even though the applicant did not really train with them in order for the applicant to meet the rquirements of the SCH.
so you mean it is illegal for me to work as a nurse there if I have no experience? :( So sad, that means I am stuck in my country for like 5 years, because it is extremely hard to get a paid job as a nurse here... New nurses' fate here is to serve hospitals without receiving even a dime, and we have to cough out our own money to pay for our fare, food, dorm, uniform, and other expenditures... My life sucks... :'(
if you have plans to work in other hospitals or clinics other than hamad, you still need to apply for the medical license thru supreme council of health. you have to apply for an evaluation. you should meet their requirements before you can apply for a medical license. that means you should have 2 or 3 years working experience, passed the prometric exam (prometric exam is one of the requirements for the medical license) and finish the dataflow (credentials verification). hamad hospital is the only hospital that doesnt need the medical license and verifications because they have their own credentialing and licensing unlike other hospitals and clinics. maybe you can apply thru clinics without having a working experience but the problem is the requirements of the SCH before they can issue you a medical license. you are not allowed to work until the medical license has been issued.
Thanks guys. My aunt doesn't know that I am planning to take the prometric exam. My dad simply said passing it will be an advantage in Qatar, he didn't clearly say if passing it is equivalent to the medical license. I heard that passing it just a requirement to have a license in Qatar, is this right?
So, if I am not yet applying for medical license, just wanna have the certificate that I passed the prometric, can I work as a nurse in less prominent hospitals?
My dad's plan is I will work in hospitals other than Hamad, to gain the 2 minimum years of experience. Only after that will I apply to Hamad.
I was also told that volunteer doesn't count as experience so yeah that's clear to me, I just wanna at least experience working in a hospital not as a student but as an RN, before I fly to Qatar.
What are your thoughts on these? Can I work in other hospitals (not Hamad) as a nurse if I passed the prometric but no experience yet?
In addition, volunteer work, even if you perform all the duties of regular nursing, usually does not count at all as work experience, because you are not held to the same standards. You need a legitimate license, and 2 years of full time work experience, at a paying job.
Its called paying your dues.
additional info- supreme council of health only allows applicant for medical license to have a continous working experience. a gap of 1 year without having a work as nurse may affect your application for the medical license unless you will be working in HMC wherein a minimum 2 years experience is required.
you should have at least 2 years experience before you can apply in hamad.hamad hospital are accepting applicant with a minimum of 2 years working experience. your aunt should know that, at the same time, you are not allowed to apply for the medical license in supreme council of health if you dont have an experience of 3 years. did your aunt told you about that?
