Australian Female trying to find work

Katems
By Katems

Hi I am a 21 year old female from Australia. My partner has been offered a position in Doha and he will be starting in early February. I am considering following him in a few months (6 possibly). I am wondering if it will be difficult for me to find a job over there? I am an events manager/coordinator with a diploma in marketing.

I am also wanting to know what would be a good salary to look at to cover expenses etc?

Would i be able to live with my boyfriend or would i have to find separate housing?

If you could please help with some possible answers i would greatly appreciate it.

Regards

Kate

I believe in equal opportunities. Give a shot. Try to apply online. You might receive reply, recruiter arrange your travel expenses etc. There will be no problem of accomodation as you will be staying with your.... You might end up with managerial position but as you are 21, I dont think so. Apply to Al Jazeera English channel or any good organisation. I think you have completed your studies but with little experience.

Best of Luck

One thing, I would not advise you to live with your boyfriend - it is illegal here. Yes people do do it, but if you are caught there are serious repercussions. If you were to try to do it, you would have to say you are married, and just hope noone will say anything. Maybe it would be best to marry before you come out?

Hi Kate,

Best sources for job hunting over the internet are at Rasgas and/or Qatargas. They're very big corporations here with all sorts of vacancies for skilled professionals. I'd also check out the link below which has a whole heap of jobs in EVERY sector going. http://www.qatarvisitor.com/index.php?cID=413&pID=1073

Finally, there has been a big push in the education sector so the link below can point you out to the major institutions here and the vacancies they have on their local websites.

as well as http://www.araboo.com/dir/qatar-colleges-universities

Good luck!

I am planning to come over to visit first and see if i like the place. If so i am considering applying for some work to make sure i have a job to come to before i decide to leave my job and place here in Australia.

Would anyone know of any places that have good corporate work for educated females possibly in event management or conferencing etc. I have been trying to look on the internet but there is a limited supply of sites... (unless i am not looking in the right place) could someone please make some recommendations of some job websites or companies?

Thanks

Kat, dont worry about the dress code, althought Qatar is moslem country but they are some ppl wearing mini skirt, tank-top, sleaveless, bikini at the beach and no one arrested them (YET) hehehe... no really seriously dont worry about the dress code, dress like when you are in your country. Only be cautious with some ppl stare at you wearing some revealing clothes. other than that is cool.

But now you need to wear you warm jacket cos, quiet windy and chilly outside.

Hi Thanks for your replies... I am aware of the situation regarding western females in qatar and the generous offer from men to help however luckily i have done some research and looked into this plus i am smart about these kind of things.

I have read about certain dress codes or expectations that women should not wear low cut tops, short skirts of sleeveless tops... Am i able to wear a singlet top that has fuller straps or would i be best to wear a tshirt?

I agree to Mila, just be smart. We women should not be used, we only use, just kidding, lol!

Kate, Good luck finding the job but be very carefull with Man offering some help here, sorry didn't mean to scare you, but all man here are very keen (i like to use different word - but I am afraid to use it as I might get warning from the Big Chief) with western young female. But if you can be smart you can use it as advantage. So Good luck.
