English teacher considering Qatar
By canadiangal •
Hi,
If you could comment on the following, it would help me out a lot.
- How easy/difficult is it to find such work?
- What would the average pay be for this?
- Is giving private lessons easy enough to set up?
- What would it be like to go there as a single woman in late 30's? I'm thinking in terms of making friends, finding work, etc.
- Are there many Canadians?
he is not, and I'm very serious on that.

Good luck canadiangal.

Hi,
If you have the right experience & qualifications, we may be able to introduce you to a school that will pay you QR25,000 Per month.
Please send your cv to: [email protected]
not sure if they are officially prohibited. BUT it is very popular here. Many teachers or staff with teaching talents are giving private lessons. ===================================== http://www.qatarliving.com/node/58409
1..you can apply to all Universities and schools in qatar. But usually universities start recruitment from October-November for the next year. Then somewhere December-February they make an interview with the short-listed candidates. Some University reps come over to North America and make an interview in 2-3 cities of USA and Canada. One of my friends went to Chicago (flight and hotel has been paid by QU), and got a job... he is a Math teacher in QU. Then in May they send you on offer so that you could have another 203 months to get ready for relocation...so just go to each website of each Doha' University/school and post your CV (Resume) there.
2.Pay might be very various. All depends on your qualification, experience and the Institution which you will get the job with
3. Private lessons are prohibited. Like any other part-time job, unless company gives you permission... When company hires you in Qatar, they became kind of your owner. You don't belong to yourself anymore... pls take it into consideration. you even cannot leave the country for few hours without the special approval, called Exit Permit..
4. Social life is fine here...you will meet a lot of new friends, and "as a single woman in late 30's" you won't be alone, don't worry...:)
5. There are a lot of canadians in qatar, and their population is growing.. but still there is no canadian embassy in here.. Can. embassy for gulf region is in Kuwait
Good luck to you with the job searching!...
There's a serious lack of qualified teachers out here - try Googling schools in Qatar then check under Career options (e.g. British Montessori, Canadian School, etc.) plenty of work available starting September but I can't advise on salaries. Many Canadians on this site as well as other English-speaking folk from around the globe.
