A girl needs urgent help!

Salam everyone,
I'm very much worried, because I'm about to go to Qatar, but I'm afraid of being incautious, unadvised.
I was 18 in January and about to go to Qatar in October. I have just finished high-school therefore i have no qualifications. My very important question is: Will I be able to get any job? What kind of? Is it possible to be a waitress in a restaurant or anything else? A saleswoman for example? Or what kind of job can i get like this?
I dont expect too much, but what i dont want is that i go there and have no job, wont be able to pay for living and at the end wont be able even to come back home! I just need any jobs and to be able to pay for the rental and to eat a bit. I dont even care about eating, cuz i eat only a few. All my dream is to be there. Can anyone give me an advice or answers for my questions? Thanks a lot!

i just read this post !! , and now the girl is 26 ,,, am feeling curious to know what had happened to the girl .... another thing that seized my attention is that i , myself, felt like i want to give the girl a hand just to donate some kind of security to a scared little girl (( though i found later that she is older than me :P )) and was shocked that it was to be considered as a trap !!!!

Hello,

I think you should look online constantly and try to get a secretarial job. Otherwise, your gonna have a hard time with anything else. The hotels are great to work at as well. If you speak english, you could apply for LaCegale, Marriot, InterContinental, Ritz Carlton, all the hotels offer good housing for their employee. I think hotels offer better packages than secretarial work.

Hey there people, if y'all don't like here, and can't stand it, what the heck are you stril doing in here, you have good paying jobs and well connected being so professional on the grounds of being so qualified, after you have arrived in here and got jobs because qatar wants qaulified people, why don't any of you try and hook her up with any of the companies you work for as receptionist, or a telephone operators, or even talk to the owners of those fancy resturants you spend your evenings mocking the local people here, while you thrive on their money.

Sure its gonna be hard for you Alex to be here without a job or a source of income, i hear what you're saying about wanting to experience stuff, why in the world it has to be aus or the uk, you've understood girl, you need to get a job, or come here on a tourist visa, providing you can handle your own, and then look for a job, and prepare your self to go back if you don't get one.

I dont know if you already left hungary or not yet........ i belive that life is chances. Try to achieve your dream of going to qatar but keep some savings with you in case of having hard times here. The probability of you getting a job here is almost 50%, sometimes people are lucky and can get their dream jobs within a few hours while others never get theor whole life. Learning Arabic here is impossible, Egypt and Jordan are the best to do it. The bottom line is, You gotta tryyyy

If you find a job; first thing, post your job details on QL and find out if the compnay is valid and if the package they offer is good enough to live here.

THe packages may sound attractive when you calculate based on the living expense there. But as Oryx and the others mentioned earlier,it's different here in Qatar.

I guess there's a rule that you should be atleast 21 years old to become a cabin crew in most of the airlines. But you can still try. There are chances they provide you atleast a 'ground support' job.In this case you will not fly,but be placed in the airport.

By the way,I was born here. But I still know nothing in Arabic..lol

If your main objective is to learn arabic, you might want to consider going to Tunisa, Morocco or some other country in the MENA region. These countries have much more open societies, so it will be much easier to meet locals and practice and improve your language skills. It's also easier to get a (temp) job in these countries. And last, but not least, they are much cheaper to stay in!

To give you an idea of what you will spend staying here as a tourist... A hotel can easily cost 450 QR per day. Taxis are hard to come by, rentin a car will cost around 100 QR a day. There's few busses, and it's too hot to walk in summer.

Most jobs as waitresses, admins etc. are taken up by relatively cheap labor from Asia, and your standard of living will not be very good if you take up a job like this. Going out is expensive in this country, and other than that there's not much to do.

Not trying to discourage you from coming here, but think about what you are spending your money on and what you will get back in return...

I've been living here in a hotel for a couple of months for work, and I'm surprised how much I end up spending here! It's not a cheap country, it's hard to get to know locals, there's not much to do... Very different from for instance Tunisia and Morocco (where I've also spent quite some time) and it wouldn't be my pick to go to after highschool. But if you're really keen on coming to Qatar, why don't you get a job in Hungary, save up and enroll in an arabic language course here once you can pay for it?

Just my 2-cents worth.

These comments you gave were very useful, so thanks everyone for them! So if i still want to go there, I should be sure for that i'll have a job as soon as i arrive. Or thats also good to go by a visit visa, and if i cant find anything then coming back.

About working: I trust myself, i'm not lazy and im hardworking. I used to work in factory, fastfood restaurant, even on a corn-field in the middle of summer 8hours a day. [i can't imagine worse:)]

About being a cabin crew: that's exactly what i wanted to be, but i checked many sites, many airlines but unfortunately they're not looking for girls under 20, or mostly 21.

I think i will try to talk to girls who already work in Doha as waitresses and these kind of works.

Every one is right.

They really give you the true picture.

Being a young girl, I can tell you one more thing.

If you still want to know about qatar, please visit some of threads in this site, where these ladies explain their personal experiences in their day to day life.

You might be in for a cultural shock.

As Oryx said, go to UK/Aus where you will be more at ease and you

can understand the world at your own pace and style. I am saying this because of those countries open nature.

I'll give you my honest to goodness advice.

Qatar is a great place with great potential, but as with most countries in the Middle East you need qualifications.

Here is the solution I give everyone. Go with a Tourist Visa, extend it to 3 months, and then search for a job. If you can't find something within 3 months then you know the answer, AND you'll have visited Qatar :D

As for you people saying "Must be a guy attracting her". You make it sound like a trap :S

I'm in England now and I met a girl online from Japan. She wanted to study England so I recommended Wimbledon. She came over, she's happy, she got what she wanted.

Just remember that at the end of the day, you have to show both the good as well as the bad. Every country has it's problems, I can't wait to leave England because I'm tried of paying VAT, income tax, Television licenses, Queen's tax, Extorionate Customs tax, Council tax, and the crap service you get from all business here.

The number of times my female have been verbally abused in England is amazing. (and they're all from different countries)

i agree with people here even i dont have much knowledge but can guess and imagine.

and ur friend in qatar probably a male can try to attract u to go there. in anywhere of world it is not easy to find a job just reaching there with high school graduation.

in past i had friends and wanted them to work in turkey in such sectors but it is really hard. and i cudnt also find a trustable place bec they wud get sexually abused. things are not like in europe here in mid east.

so if u find a company in ur own country which is doing business in qatar go apply them. it will be easier to get visa and work permit. and u will have an official place which supports u there.

i wudnt even go worlds best known countries without finding a job before going or a master program or whatever.

at least u will have problems affording ur life till u get a job.

Oryx made several valid points. Please do not think that we are out to frighten you. Most of us here are older than you, and have come here with our families / husband / wives etc. As people have mentioned above Qatar is great to come and visit for a holiday, but not as a first time work experience. And it's true, you will not learn arabic here unless you attend a classroom (which is expensive).

Cabin crew with an airline is interesting if you want to see the world and meet new cultures, but do not be fooled into thinking you will have much time off for 'sightseeing'.

What Knoxcollege said, sounds very scary; and I'm sure he did not mean to make it sound that harsh. But his words are true. You must be careful here as a single, young female. This applies to everywhere in the world, but if something happens to you here and you do not have family to help you, you risk too much.

Good Luck on your future.

I believe by now many people would have asked you to send your resume or CV to them and they will offer you job as well.

Listen girl you are just 18 and coming to Qatar alone is very dangerous and risky. you could fall in the wrong hands and be subjected to sexual and physical abuse. it is much better if you get some education and know your rights. coz being 18, being a girl, being single and being alone in Qatar means you are asking yourself to be subjected to violence.

dont come here and knock the door on Qatar Airways office saying that you want to work with them as cabin crew. As far as i know QR hiring the crew from the country of origin.

I only can second Oryx opinion about coming here. Pls dont come here if you not guarantee having a job line up.

All the comments above are true.

Try and get in with Qatar Airways and only come here once you've got through although i'd recommend Emirates and a stay in Dubai if its only the arabian culture and language you are looking for.All the airlines have their own websites. This is only if you are interested in becoming a cabin crew.Do not go through anybody even they offer help or say they have influence.

With the airline industry you get to see/live in Qatar/Gulf and see the world at this age.

I'd suggest you see the world and travel in this one year (part time work in Europe/Aus/NZ) and then concentrate and complete your university. Best of luck!!

Totally agree with Oryx. Why do u wanna come here in the first place. this is not a place to try out soemthing. Visa process is a lenghty one. and most importantly don't put your personal details.

The other day we put an ad in the gulf times for a job for one of my friends. The worst thing I did was mentioning that it was a female. I got all sorts of messages and invites. One guy even offered to come and pick her up to take her to the Interview!!! There are so many men overe here (no offense to anyone) who are waiting to get they're hands on something!! as suggested, go to Europre. but defnitely not to Doha if you are coming here alone

You should not come here unless you have some skills. Things run different in this culture. A simple job in Starbucks or any similar job, pays you the kind of money you need to stay in a room with 2 or three others, because you won't be able to find a room on your own for this salary. At the bottom line you will have some money to buy you food, but not much!

The only chance I see to do this in Qatar is going to a hotel and work in the restaurant or as cleaning staff. The advantage would be that you might be provided an accomodation.

I suggest you first discover how your world (europe) works and thereafter when able to manage life in the culture you know, you start discovering how other cultures work.

My personal opinion is that it is very dangerous considering to come here in your situation. For an 18 year old who wants to learn life and has (as you said yourself) no experience in living alone and managing daily life, Qatar is definetly not the place to learn it!

I totally agree with Orix.Qatar is a great Country, but verry expensive and no chance to stay longer without sponsorship visa. You must be spnsored from a company(working visa) or from your husband. There are no other ways as far as i know.

Wish you all the best and regards from Swiss.

Please trust Oryx because whatever said above is true. That's the reality.

Now that you have just completed your high school, why dont you try to attend any air hostess interviews or any jobs in that lines?I'm sure they conduct interviews in Hungary

CHeck out web sites like

www.qatarairways.com

Search on google and you'll find many opportunuties.

But believe me,it's difficult to live here without a job or enough financial support.

Hope your dreams come true.

You can not get casual work in Qatar like in Europe - any sort of job requires a lengthy sponsorship process and it is definately not the market for gap year students unlike London or Sydney

chances are you wont get any job here... but in europe esp london you can find a job within a week - i bet

When I went to Sydney many years ago... i got a job within two hours of arriving and stayed in it for 7 months.

this isn't the place were you cut your teeth on life... this is the place where you come with experience

Qatar is not a good place to learn Arabic as most of the people in Qatar are not Arabs and you actually don't always come into daily contact with the language

You would be much better off earning money in Europe and then going to another Arab country like Egypt if you want to learn Arabic

Qatar is VERY different for qataris than it is for non-Qataris

so that is why you are getting conflicting opinions. Maybe he was trying to impress you to?

I love Qatar but I came at the right time in my life for the right reasons.

By AlexandraHengl• 19 Jul 2007 15:13

Well, why i want to go to Qatar: first of all I have about one year before going to university and i wanna work until that time. I don't wanna stay here in Hungary, cuz i think i need to get more experianced by living on my own and learn how life works. I love the arabic language and im so eager to learn it. English and arabic are my two favourite languages and i wish to improve them this way.

secondly: i will have to work in any ways, even if i go, even if i stay and with a school leaving exam i wont get better jobs anywhere on earth i guess.

On the other hand, I have a friend in Qatar who i want to visit.

Now im much worried after reading your comments, cuz what this Qatari friend of mine told me was so different and positive comparing your answers :)

Listen to the recommendations above. Unless you already have a job lined up here, you will find yourself in trouble in a very short time.

If you really have this wish of coming to Qatar, then you can always come for a vacation, making sure that you have enough money to pay for a hotel. Unless you have a residency permit here, you will not be able to come into the country without a return ticket anyway.

Good Luck.

PS. Why not travel through Europe? There is alot more to see than here?

Oryx comments are spot on, rethink your life ambitions my dear. You will only be ex-spolited if you come here. The only people who are 18 from Europe who come here have their parents here for fall back, sponsorship, visa issues, borrowing the car etc.

Qatar is a place where you come with qualifications and experience

it isn't a good place for oportunity for the unskilled they are very open to exploitation here

You will need a lot of money to support yourself whilst looking - job hunting and visa processing can take months

putting all this personal info about yourself on the internet is also leaving yourself very vunerable

I think you need to reconsider your strategies

Why on earth would you have a dream of going to Qatar???

if you want to get away from home and have some fun... go to another place in Europe.
