insecured and non-deserving people

A lot of my friends have been in search of jobs and they have been putting ads in the wanted columns. It is very strange that they receive emails asking them to send the CV and the sender does not have the decency to even reveal the name and his company he representing. How such companies when they dont want to reveal their identity expect an employee or job seeker to reveal all his information to a stranger? It is highly unethical.

secondly when the so called employers call the given number in the advert, their very first question which is the height of stupidity - "how much salary you expect" I mean without telling what is the position or briefing about the job and not even telling who he is or or from which company? When you try to continue the conversation, they immediately cut the phone. One of the very best example is my friend, when he received a call from a leading group (which is into automobiles - luxury cars) that lady asked about his nationality, and then when he tried to continue talking, he could hear that the lady's colleague shouting at her from her behind, please cut the phone he is not from our country. Dont ask anything more, we dont want his CV, otherwise he will get selected.

This has happened to so many people known to me, and after my confidential survey, I have found out that 70% of the staff who have been working here are not worth their job, they are so insecured to see any staff even enquiring about the job.

It is so painful and unfortunate for this country to have such people and I pity those ignorant and irresponsible management of companies here who have given their company's future into such weak, unethical and irresponsible people.

God save Qatar.

Companies may have restrictions on nationalities owing to visa restrictions.

And yes, people who have jobs often have faults, but typically unemployed people don't have jobs for a good reason.

that job seekers expose themselves to when they place ads in the WANTED SITUATION/JOB sections of the local (English) newspapers.

But thanks for sharing your relative's story. Its a forewarning to those who seek greener pastures....

Dear All,

the main thread is very strange, neither I want to support nor i want to go against it, because it is not reffered as a personal attack to any nation or community, so why give explanation.

But from the crux of this content, I would like to share one incident may be it is useful for you all. Recently when my cousin put an advert in Gulf Times situation wanted, he got an email with a one line message, that please send your CV, with no phone and no name of the company , he in desperation sent his CV, within few days, he lost his job, because that sender, befriended someone over there, and found out my cousin's salary, and everything and straight away, sent an email to the manager, he is ready to do the job for this position at a salary of so and so which was almost 40% less than what my cousin was drawing. Due to today's crisis period, my cousin was asked to go and he replaced him. How my cousin came to know about this was while handing over to this guy, he found that email which he had sent to his boss and, my cousin just checked his correspondence and found out it was the same email id. ANd my cousin showed me the correspondences, his email to this guy enclosing his CV and this guy's message to boss offering the low salary.

May be this info is useful to you. Hence my personal opinion, though a company when putting an advert in the newspaper can with held their name/contact number, but when as an employer when the company is responding to a situation wanted advert, and sending a personalised email, it is ethical to reveal who they are especially when they are asking a confidential information from an applicant.

This incident is shared mainly for those who are already in job and looking for better prospects with better salary, please be careful while putting advert and when you receive responses. My cousin's incident is one of the best example who wanted to change his job and was exposed by some culprint and he lost his present job.

The best way to post an ad as a company is to use a gmail email address, and not reveal who they are.

If you know who they are, you may keep calling/visiting them, even when you don't fit the position.

To the OP, get a life, and stop moaning... If you didn't get the job, you can't blame the company.

You're just EXAGGERATING...Or let's put it this way, everyone knows/saw the cat before you did...and you're trumpeting that you it first.

Before you say I'm reacting because I'm one of those guilty ones...whehehehehe...all I can say is, "WAKE UP?"

I never made mention about your nationality nor I commented about 'nationalities' in particular. I addressed that nationality post to "drovers driver' whose post got flagged/deleted.

Why on the defensive mode if you're just (as you claimed)"saw and observed"?

My question still stands: how did you made/conducted that "CONFIDENTIAL" survey that made you CONCLUDE that (and I quote you):"does not even know what they are doing and what they are supposed to do for the position they hold and the salary they are getting paid for.?

Have you gone through ALL (as in ALL EXISTING)companies in Qatar to arrive at that percentage? Unless you could give facts and info about your so-called 'survey', all readers will consider this as "hearsay or generalization".

Dear Azilana

If at all you read my post, no where I mentioned about the nationalities. And of course, you are being guilty, may be people like are the ones who are doing these kind of things.

Somone told here that "no wonder" I am jobless. Sorry to say, I can give jobs to so many people and have given too. But cannot accommodate the whole jobless people over here.

My survey included most of the people irerspective of their natioalities, does not even know what they are doing and what they are supposed to do for the position they hold and the salary they are getting paid for.

So why everybody has reacted. I am not frustrated but just shared what I saw and observed, you might be having your opinions based on your experience, so share it, why React?

Just bcoz my nationality is Qatar, you all presumed that I am targeting filipinos and Indians. No, not at all.

Without any ref to any country, I met different people who have proved that they dont deserve what they are having.

Dear you may call it exaggerating or whatever, it is a fact, if this trend continues, I repeat God save this country from such people. Here I dont mean to target any particular nationality.

Only guitly people will feel that way, I cant help it.

It is very strange that they receive emails asking them to send the CV and the sender does not have the decency to even reveal the name and his company he representing. How such companies when they dont want to reveal their identity expect an employee or job seeker to reveal all his information to a stranger? It is highly unethical.

--->Your FRIENDS who posted in the WANTED SITUATION section of local newspapers in Qatar WILL RECEIVE all kinds of e-mails (or calls---if they placed their contact number with their ads) and THE WOULD-BE/PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS have the PREROGATIVE whether they want to reveal their identity or the company's name they represent.

Your friends TOOK THE RISK of putting their contact details(e-mail add/number) in search of a job. So, if they're really interested in FINDING A JOB, what's their problem if they send their CV?

secondly when the so called employers call the given number in the advert, their very first question which is the height of stupidity - "how much salary you expect" I mean without telling what is the position or briefing about the job and not even telling who he is or or from which company? When you try to continue the conversation, they immediately cut the phone.

--->Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually, people posting in the WANTED JOB/SITUATION ads section contains info that they're looking for a specific job in a specific industry. So, the reader would assume that the job-seeker knows what job he's interested in. Asking the job-seeker how much is the salary expectations is to be considered a SCREENING PROCESS which is also a prerogative of the would-be employer whether they would pursue with the application to the interview process.

Cutting the phone call by the calling party means your friend didn't answer the question with the right information. Your friend prolonging the conversation doesn't sit well with the HIRING/CALLING PARTY.

---> I think this story is A BIT EXAGGERATED. I would consider this crap-stirring. My opinion.

This has happened to so many people known to me, and after my confidential survey, I have found out that 70% of the staff who have been working here are not worth their job, they are so insecured to see any staff even enquiring about the job.

--->CONFIDENTIAL SURVEY? Did you call all companies here in the country to come up with that PERCENTAGE? Again, I'm not initiating an argument here but I'm TELLING IT TO YOUR (VIRTUAL) FACE...you're EXAGGERATING.

It is so painful and unfortunate for this country to have such people and I pity those ignorant and irresponsible management of companies here who have given their company's future into such weak, unethical and irresponsible people.

---> It PAINS me that young people like you could come up with this conclusions about one (host) country and it's citizens/people based from a few instances that happened to your FRIENDS.

More likely, I PITY your FRIENDS coz they don't have a job still...and I call that SOURGRAPING

God save Qatar.

--> GOD (or Allah) is keeping Qatar SAFE...Alhamdolilah!

----------------------------

I did my share of SCREENING/HIRING APPLICANTS in my line of work and I can tell you: I would know if the applicant is just wasting my time or not.

nationality shouldn't be segregated, there are muppets in every organisation & every country and sadly qatar in not immune.

so i think you're being too generous, incompetent staff runs much higher than the 70% you quoted.

We are able to get JOBS here coz we're qualified, not because of anything else...

I don't know why you're so ARROGANT calling INDIANS & FILIPINOS "dickhead" when you're BEING/BEHAVING LIKE ONE....

Hello friend, Welcome to QL! I can understand your frustration and incredulity. Professionalism is relative. If you have traveled the world and worked in different places you will understand what I mean. It also depends a lot on historical and cultural nuances.

That said; don't ever feel ashamed or apologetic about your nationality. What you are today is because of the country/region you were born in.

It is a known fact that central and west Asian regions have a unique way of profiling job offers according to nationality. It serves some purpose and advantages for the the region but it surely has its drawbacks in the way it is implemented.

For all its foibles, one must also come to terms with the fact that Qatar is a rapidly evolving nation. Like other countries of the region, it is relatively young in terms of development, industrialization and globalization. All credit to the country's rulers and bureaucracy for establishing a chart topping GDP, robust hydrocarbon infrastructure, providing an enhanced quality of life for many (if not all) and making its presence felt on the global stage.

It will be remiss to not mention that the realization of their vision was and is being made possible only because of the sweat/blood and toil of immigrant workers and professionals.

As you very rightly mention, there are innumerable instances of mismanagement, pettiness and unethical practices. But you and I and every individual can make a difference no matter how small. I share your pain and frustrations so don't consider this reply as me being preachy. We all have short lives and our primary goal should be to be happy individuals with happy families, who have seen as much of God's wonderful world as possible.

Whenever you are down, just look up to the clear blue skies or gaze into the vast expanse of the sea and desert. Nature has its way of providing solace. It is beautiful and it is profound.

Peace.
