Afghan Taliban executes two for eloping

This story's headline reads: "Afghan Taliban executes teen girl, man for eloping"

If you read the story, the "teen girl" was 19. The "man" was 21.
I find it more than a little misleading...

And the story is truly heart-breaking. Two young adults, in love, shot to death because they were trying to run off and get married.

The Taliban suck.

Well just like others I do say TALIBAN SUCKS. Anyhow, I just don't understand why Muslim couples runaway for marriage from their families. I mean being a family member, we do know what kind of mental level they posses. So why these youngsters make such decisions for which they have to runaway from their families.

.

For example, I know my parents, family members and their thoughts. So whenever I have to make any decision I will definitely think of my parents before coming to any conclusion. . Anyhow, such runaways are not allowed in ISLAM but also ISLAM doesn't allow parents to enforce marriages if their son/daughter doesn't want to. His/Her consent is top priority but parents happiness in the marriage cannot be ignored either. Anyhow, to make your parents angry is forbidden in Islam that's why children must make such decisions by discussing with their parents (or) make such decision which doesn't cause disturbance in your family. .

For more guidance, seek Quran's & Hadith's help.

Hapy: Thanks for the link, honour killings happen more often in all the Arabic world and some asian countries (Philipines, Paquistan and India are just some examples on the non arabic countries), this just shows how the lack of education makes people to forget important values on today's world.

Sadly even before the Taliban appeared and even after they are gone, such killings will continue to occur in Afghanistan. Read a bit about honour killings in Afghanistan, its very common. Its rather strange that only one such report has surfaced.

The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has claimed that many of the honor killings happen when women or girls refuse to engage in arranged marriage or have "inappropriate" relationships. AIHRC says 185 girls have been killed by relatives so far in 2006, a large increase on last year's rate. As in other areas where honour killings happen, the true figure is probably much higher, especially in rural areas.
