bahrain minister calls gulf arabs lazy
Arabian bus have reported a story in the Bahrain media in which the labour minister (following his calls for a limit on ex-pat sponsorship) has now berated his compatriots:
"A lord with billions in Great Britain cleans his own car on a Sunday morning, whereas people of the Gulf look for someone to hand them a glass of water from just a couple of metres away," he said.
"If the Gulf governments do not watch out for this tsunami of foreign labourers, the fate of this region is very worrying," he said.

I saw the same thing in Kuwait the Kuwaitis would do nothing for themselves at all, I would clean off the porch and maintenance the car and the ladies told me to stop or their husbands would expect the same. I wondered when the war came how they would survive as regular daily needs were taken care of by everyone else. Its nice to have help but its also essential to be able to take care of yourself and be an active member of society be in as a car repairmen or computer programmer they are all valuable. We see it as freedom to help yourself.
I beleive this is called "a double post" Sorry.

So true..most people here find it strange that i dont hire a maid to help with the kids .Its almost the norm here and if you dont have one, then something is wrong with you. Most other countries people rely on themselves for almost everything and if they were to hire nannies/hired help they are treated well and are paid well, not like here, what maids earn is ridiculous not to mention how they are treated...
Its sad in the Gulf that hard work is not respected, at least in Oman you see natives working at gas stations, taxi drivers etc. etc. The reliance on foreign labor will never end if the natives in a country think real work is beneath them. Not everyone is destined to a Managerial job. You still need a labor force. Even things done by hand like sewing for women is not respected they see it as work that should be done by others. Just like children are being raised by the maids that can't even speak their language, I don't see a change anywhere on the horizon as the society does not respect work. They think being rich means having people do everything for you, its a shame and its getting more imbreed daily. Its sad the ladies walk so little and get no sunshine in Qatar their bones are no good, and diabetes is on the rise. I doubt we will see any changes in the near future if parents don't start raising their children to think differently but they also have to be role models.
