Eid on Saturday?

DOHA • Eid Al Fitr is technically on Friday, but since the new moon would not be visible on Thursday evening due to astronomical reasons, the festival will most likely fall on Saturday, says a Qatari astronomer.

Sheikh Salman bin Jaber Al Thani, an amateur astronomer from Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), told Al Sharq that technically this is a 29-day lunar month and the next month of Shawal begins on Friday when Eid Al Fitr should actually be celebrated.

But since the new moon which would emerge minutes after the sunset at 5.10pm on Thursday would be visible only the next evening (Friday), Eid is most likely to be celebrated on Saturday.

Can someone explain this to me? Why would the new moon that comes out on Thursday be visible only on Friday?

That would be great... means we will have another friday to fast and pray in Ramadan. I am so glad to hear this :D

The life of the new moon would be very less therefore, it will disappear very quickly and it would be impossible to sight the new moon on thursday.
