Israel jails ultra-orthodox fathers ..

Dozens of ultra-orthodox Jewish men have been jailed for defying a school integration ruling in Israel, but 22 mothers have been given a reprieve.

The Ashkenazi parents were given two weeks' jail time for refusing to send their children to school with Jewish Sephardi girls, on religious grounds.

Masses of ultra-orthodox Jews staged one of the biggest protests against the state of Israel on Thursday.

They oppose a Supreme Court ruling that forbids the separation of students.

The Ashkenazi parents, who are of European descent, want segregated classrooms because they say the Sephardi families are not religious enough.

Sephardi families are of Middle Eastern or North African origin.

You really don't think religious zealots do stupid things in every country in the world, or do you only think there are religious zealots in Israel. You're navitie and lack of world knowledge is astounding if you do.

I don't have any agenda Olive. I have read many comments here lamenting muslims' narrow minded behaviour. At times, even I was part of those critics. I don't know how israelis behave in their own land. I read something from the secular media that shows something awkward about jews too, hence thought of sharing..

Check the most active threads sag, seems to be more West & Israel bashing then Islam bashing. After all saying anything bad about Islam on this site will get you your account deleted. So stop playing the whining martyr and admit that this thread is just about your own prejudiced agenda and nothing else.

Olive, why only Islam or muslim bashing? just have a look at others too..

a thread posted on QL, generally based on the news originated and printed on the newspaper of particular area, region, country, so its not new, if happened in Israel.

Sounds no different then religious zealots anywhere else in the world. It wouldn't even be posted on this site if it hadn't taken place in Israel. YAWN.

Religious grounds? What a joke. It's obvious these people are out and out racists. Given the fact that they built an apartheid wall to separate themselves from Palestinians, this actually shouldn't be such a shock really...

Racism is alive and kicking! And calling itself the 'only democracy in the Middle East'!

I find it amusing they're now turning on each other... long may it continue !
