Libya: Muammar Gaddafi threatens Europe

From the BBC

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has threatened to attack Europe in revenge for Nato's operations in Libya.

Col Gaddafi said Libya would target European "homes, offices, families" unless Nato stopped its campaign.

He spoke via an audio message broadcast to tens of thousands of supporters gathered in a central Tripoli square.

His message comes after France confirmed it had supplied weapons to anti-government rebels, delivering arms to Berber tribal fighters near Tripoli.

In the broadcast, played via loudspeakers to gathered crowds in the capital's Green Square, he called on supporters to "march on the western mountains", the area where the weapons had been delivered.

'Like locusts'

Then he warned Europe that Libyans would seek revenge.

"These people [the Libyans] are able to one day take this battle [...] to Europe, to target your homes, offices, families, which would become legitimate military targets, like you have targeted our homes," he said.

"If we decide to, we are able to move to Europe like locusts, like bees. We advise you to retreat before you are dealt a disaster," he added.

Something to think about considering his past and that many of us will be traveling this summer.

Britexpat--I think the REAL issue is how stupid these people were to invite wolves into a sheep pasture under the auspices of them protecting them from the local hyena.  I don't have a problem with the Libyan rebels either, but where have they been since 2002?  For that matter where have they been for the past several hundred years of Western empire-building?  Libya has been part of how many empires over the years?

You are ofcourse  correct. They asked for help. The real issue is how what type of help our leaders promised to provide and are actually providing.

I have no issue with the Libyan rebels - I find it insulting that cameron has acted like blair in misleading the public..

in exchange for the help? From the very beginning, the intent of those who "help" were known. It's sorry (backfire) time now.  For all parties involved in the conflict. Now, who's next?

The Libyan rebels and the Arab league asked for assistance.  If you want to question the legitimacy of these organizations and the heads of state that provided assistance, then fair enough.  But they are the one who asked, sorry begged for intervention.Personally, I think Europe should have left them alone to sort out their own mess, and ignored the pleas for the West to play policeman.  Or let China and Russia handle it--they have greater need for the oil and potentially more invested in a stable Libya.

Dictators and tyrants  should be treated the same way they have treated or are treating others . Rules and  procedures dont apply to people like Gaddafi, Assad of Syria, Saleh of Yemen and others who make the laws and then trample over them as and when  it suits them

And what criteria do we use for deciding which dictator we should go against ?

The only way is what happened in Egypt and Tunisia. The people themselves must bring about the change - without external interference..

This tyrant has got away with fooling, killing and murdering his own people during his forty years in power in Libya. The whole world knew about the evil deeds of this man but nobody said anything all this time but now they are certainly not going to allow him to get away with his misdeeds any longer

coming out! Real intentions.  The guy maybe wrong but are all things done against him means RIGHT?Protecting the civilians, why are all civilians against this man?  So what, collateral damage to kill people on "his" side?  This is an internal problem of LIBYA, outsider just made it worse.Question is, it's the same thing happening to Syria, why a different strategy?

The whole thing is a farce.. We went with a No-Fly zone, then attacked their forces to "protect the civilians", now we're supplying weapons and training rebels.

His time is nigh, but we will not come out of it smelling of roses :O(

After 42 years in power and all the terrorist activities he was involved in, why "now" has Europe decided to act against this man? The UN lifted sanctions against him in 2003, so why "now"? I smell a rat in the woodpile somewhere! Follow the money/oil!

Who's he gonna use,Al Qaida? He did threaten that too. The guy's a nut, and a desparate one. But yes that said he cannot be ignored totally so hope those in authority will take all the necessary  precautions. Inshallah he's end is nigh.

Well we all knew he lost his marbles when he attacked his own citizens but to threaten the Europeans makes no sense. What is he going to attack them with in the first place? He has no airforce to speak of!!!
