2011 KARWA FARE INCREASE

Who knew that KARWA is going to increase the fare for TAXI's and BUSes?
I did not know that until I tried to use the bus and was stopped by the driver because I did not have their SMART CARD and if I really want to ride the bus I would have to pay QR10 as to QR3 which is the normal charge. Another surprising news I learned is that starting FRIDAY (1 APRIL 2011) the flag down rate of KARWA TAXI's will be QR10 and QR4 for every extra mile.
This really is big news and puzzling for me because petrol here is cheap and KARWA is not really doing any amazing upgrade on their service to warrant this steep of an increase on their FARE. They have monopoly on public transport so they should be having no problems with cash flow to be able to provide affordable fare for the public.
I have always used KARWA and I have heard stories of maltreatment of employees and usurpations by bosses from every driver that I have encountered.
These drivers have confessed to a lot of bad things that they did to retaliate against the bad way KARWA management is treating them. I can imagine the financial debt that KARWA is in now because they have more BUSTED BUSES and TAXIS due to negligence of their employees.
In my view these increase on fare are not due to HARD TIMES or competition but caused by MISMANAGEMENT.
This will make the COLORUM taxi's happy. They will be able to put up their price because the bench mark has gone up. Thank you KARWA. :)

They should be called mowasa-late!

I Hate this company, 4 days out of six this week the driver came more than 30 minutes late. The reason is always the same: "I had no idea, they called me from station 15 minutes ago". Stupid load of bull****!

These are private cars being used as alternative taxi's which in my opinion are not much better since Karwa raised their fare these guys won't accept any less than QR10 and sometimes they charge more.

brit, what we call 'colorum' back home are the privately-owned cars/vehicles that have no proper permits to operate as public transport vehicles. private taxis here in other words.

i prefer taking karwa buses over taxis anytime. you can actually save more if you have the smart card. they're safe, more or less reliable and they have a schedule. even if they're not always on time, at least you know exactly where they go and you do not get ripped off with the fare.

you're right Pilo, they are taking more than two different passengers..plus, the rate in doha, tarif 1..they were putting to tarif 0 which is supposed to be used to outside doha...really cheaters...bad smell taxis..poor service..so we must give way to colurom taxis..good service, clean and pleasant smelling cars, more private and not urguing..

Hello...Karwa Management...please wake up...just an hour ago, i experienced a cheater driver #7755..putting tarif 0 but i came from villaggio going to alsaad...normal rate i'm paying is 12-14QR but this evening i paid QR19..and last night, same story..tarif 0, i came from villaggio to lulu hyper and i paid QR35...my gosh, you will lost your customers, instead will go to colurom taxis..

karwa drivers dont use meters...they will tell you how much they will charge you,it is take it or leave it..if you dont want they will transfer u to other taxi.so i always ending up fighting with the taxi drivers everytime i used karwa.better carlift still can bargain the fare.

i agree with you. they are not thinking or they do not give any importance to most of their passengers. worst drivers i can say when you think about the service. one time i took a karwa taxi in industrial. b/c we were experiencing heavy traffic that time, he went off road like he was driving a 4x4 and he did not care about the car and me as his passenger. he was driving fast like the ones we see in the action movie. and the worst is he stopped at one point to take two more passengers with us. not even asking me if i am willing to go with other passengers...i suggest to privatize this Karwa Service and let us enjoy the ride we are paying them.
