One single test drive can be decieving, especially when you're used to the other vehicle (X5)

Indeed I hate the single control for lights, wipers and indicators and agree that iDrive is better than Comand system

The speed sensitive steering is actually a feature which helps controlling better in higher speed and also when parking perfectly...you can easily get comfortable once you learn its sensitivity..the combination of speed sensitive steering and 4matic creates that uneven effect on corners but you can always turn ESP off if you care more about corners than safety

Yes, ML63 feels soft because of the airmatic suspension but just put the gear and suspension in Sports and it lowers and turns into a totally different beast with a solid hard suspension which even lowers some more when you drive it hard

Just bragging rights and not performance? Well, ML63 does 0-100 in less than 5 seconds compared to X5 4.8IS which does the same in over 6 seconds! Now you got to have some bragging rights when your SUV rapes camaros, mustangs and porsche "sports cars" :)

A foot parking brakes in a $160k car? no thanks

Until I test drove one in May. It's just not the same experience in terms of the overall feel as the E70 and the X5 4.8is outhandles it. The X5 feels smaller and ultimately can be taken harder into a corner that has the ML feeling a little unsettled. The ML is also slight softer and feels heavier (although supposedly it isn't).

- I prefer the X5's steering which is nice and linear with perfect progressiveness. The ML's is a speed sensitive system that's very light at low speeds but then artificially heavy at higher speeds in the corners. When cornering hard it becomes heavy and doesn't want to follow the curve of the corner. That I don't like.

- Brakes are good on the ML63, but the progressiveness of the pedal is not as good as the 4.8is. When I brake the first few inches of travel don't make much difference and I find myself braking harder and more abruptly. The 4.8is brakes are perfect.

And I really don't like Mercedes' Command system even compared to BMW's i-Drive and I've never liked the single-stalk control which Mercedes uses for lights/wipers/indicators etc.

so for most, the reason to buy the ML63 is for bragging rights and status, not performance

"Official" temperatures always lie!

I have noticed the thermometer read-outs in cars always show higher than the actual. In my car the read-out showed 55 and then went blank. Later I found out the highest official temp was 49 degree celcius yesterday.
