An Absolute Time Waster

JohnnyBravo
By JohnnyBravo

Yesterday I posted an ad to sell my sony erricsson mobile.I quoted the price QR 500 and also wrote that it is negotiable. The biggest mistake I made was that I didnt write SERIOUS BUYERS only or NO TIME WASTERS.

This is what happened..As soon I posted the Ad,I got a msg in the next 5 minutes. I called that guy,a meeting place was decided and everything was settled. I went to his place and after playing with my mobile for 15 minutes, He said ok, I can give 350 riyals for it and I was like....FUMING to say the least..

Such guys are absolute time wasters. He didnt even know how to Unlock the mobile but was commenting on the phone that other models are better than this. He didnt even search on the net about the specs of the mob. He was not serious, not even in the first place. I m quite sure that he didnt even have 350 riyals (the price he quoted) in his pocket. He just wasted my time. What can we do to avoid such people..Any comments?

JohnnyBravo let me get this straight now, you posted a thread about your experience with time wasting people that didnt buy your phone, fair enough, eventually you got responses from people related to your topic, fair enough, then what you witnessed was a minor "hijack" to the thread, which is fairly NORMAL if you've been on QL long enough. Stop effing crying about it now and MOVE ON!

Well Bro, considering you are sad enough to post such a mundane and uninteresting topic, I am really surprised you are such an authority on forums. This thread was about as interesting as the one when I posted that I had changed my socks until the banter injected by others made it worth reading.

What are you going to post today, someone called you and hung up?

She posted an advertisement on QL that they are moving out fast due to personal reasons and sold few goods to simple and humble behaving mallu couple. Now after looting them for good amount they bought new furniture for themselves.Whenever she needs to sale off something old she gives an ad that they are moving out.But how come they cant give simple ad that they want to sale out the thing straight away...

By monizag• 19 Apr 2011 12:30

if i use the same logic as you had came up with, then you should not go to the shopping malls, unless you want to buy something. only real spenders can go to the malls. this way, we can free up the car park lots. even a simple business transaction you cannot understand. in my opinion having you in this country is a waste of time.

I am always amused by the term "Serious Buyers Only"

Those , like your culprit will still turn up, hoping to beat the price down.

Please Please MERCY - don't remind me about the time I tried to sell my car. Horrendous. Never EVER again

By anonymous• 19 Apr 2011 10:40

Good point, if you went to a shop for this mobile there is no reason for you to start chasing these customers down.

By anonymous• 19 Apr 2011 09:44
anonymous

Indeed. It wasn't the only one. Usually if someone calls you and starts saying "My friend..." or " I am having to come from Wakra / Al Khor / long way away" or "You must make a consideration on your price" is about time to politely make your excuses and hang up.

Patience as ever is a virtue.

By anonymous• 19 Apr 2011 09:36

I have an idea which I tried. If you are getting calls tell them that "you already have two offers (20 riyals less or the maximum you can reduce) who will be coming to you in an hour or two and if he is interested to get at the offer price come before them or you will call one of them and sell it". If that person is interested in your offer will come to you soon.

By smoke• 19 Apr 2011 09:20
smoke

I think we've all been there done that, sometimes i put the price 200 more than the amount i'm expecting so that when they bargain we settle on same amount i want or close to it.

You can always tell the time wasters apart from the genuine buyers, if they make YOU call them up for something they want to buy just dont entertain them. Never show you are desperate to sell coz they can sense that and will try to take advantage.

Sometimes they give you talks that so and so person posted the same item for 300 bucks less than what i'm selling, i tell them to go and buy it from that person instead. :P

He was quite near to my residence...But As soon as I finished with him,I got another call..That guy too wanted me to come to his place..But I already had learned my lesson by then :)

By smoke• 19 Apr 2011 09:07

Next time do the negotiation over the phone, make the buyer come to YOU, If you are not satisfied with the offer you are not obligated to sell. Simple.

By anonymous• 19 Apr 2011 09:06
anonymous

Absolutely. Had the same issue with selling my car. Put the price on at 85k and had someone very interested wanting to meet at Villaggio. Turns up with whole family in tow, take it for a test drive and kicks tyres etc. Then says after almost an hour that he will take if for 60k cash as this was what the car was worth in his opinion. After resisting the urge to beat him politely refused his offer. Sold the car two days later for QAR83500. Sad as it sounds, for some people who phoned I just said that it was sold as the phone rang off the hook for three days solid. I still get calls now almost 12 months later even though I removed the ad.
