Abused Dog
Near where I live, there's a poor pit-bull type dog tied up outside on a piece of waste ground. No shelter, no food, no water. I try and go every day and give him something to eat and drink. He's very friendly but very scared and is severely underweight. I have spoken to the Phillipino man who works in the house, and asked him to make sure the dog has, at the very least, water every day. He smiles and says 'Yes ma'am' but does nothing - I assume he's too worried he'll get into trouble.
So just now, I went and gave the dog some water, and the Qatari owner came out and started shouting at me. Now I should point out that the dog is NOT in his garden or on his property in any way, so I was not trespassing or doing any harm. Simply showing some kindness to this poor animal. The man became very abusive, yelling and flapping his arms around telling me to 'mind your business, go away!' I told him I was only giving his dog some water, could he please take care of his animal and make sure it had water every day. He continued to yell 'not your business, go away' and I continued to say 'It is my business if I see an animal suffering'. That's when he really lost the plot and said 'Do not talk to me like that. Do not be rude' So I told him not to talk to ME like that and be so rude. Oh boy, he was NOT impressed.
Honestly, what can I do? It makes me so mad that someone can treat an animal so badly. I know it's his animal, so technically it's not my business, but should I really turn away when I see this poor dog suffering? Now I worry that I've made things worse for the dog, that he'll take his anger and frustration out on it and abuse it even more than before. Oh dear. I'm shaking, I'm so upset.
Please send a private message to "Xena" - I think she works there.
I have some good Qatari friends who have taught me a lot. That and google :P
But seriously, I think sometimes the way to wake people here up is to remind them of their better potential as muslims, christians, jews, hindus, etc.
Well said...truly impressed,Alhamdullialh! But the sad fact is many of these people are blinded by their wealth and pomp that they have long ceased caring as to what is right and wrong in accordance to their religion.
@ Dottie : you did well, Mashallah! Truly saddening to read of such oppression. Hope the poor dog gets release from such a terrible owner soon..Aameen!

The Prophet(s) told his companions of a woman who would be sent to Hell for having locked up a cat; not feeding it, nor even releasing it so that it could feed herself." Narrated by Abdullah bin 'Omar. Bukhari, 4:337.
The Prophet(s) was asked if acts of charity even to the animals were rewarded by God. He replied: 'yes, there is a reward for acts of charity to every beast alive.' (Narrated by Abu Huraira, Bukhari, 3:322.
The Prophet(s) told his companions of a serf who was blessed by Allah for saving the life of a dog by giving it water to drink and quenching its thirst. (Narrated by Abu Huraira. Muslim, Vol. 4, Hadith No. 2244.
Maybe he will be ashamed of himself if you show a greater respect for Islam than he is.
I told him if he didn't want the dog I would take it, and he said 'what I care?, I have 20 more inside'.
i know one friend working in QAWS,if u want to i can contact her so she help this poor dog, this idiot owner don't deserve to have a pet,he is so cruel...
I think you should go to police and complain. Some persones they did not understand by the polite way and this is the nutcher.
..advice from a perfect stranger..hope you follow it...
..was advised before that even the most powerful employer may be of no use if you have problems with a local for reasons unrelated to your job..let QAWS do it...
..employees will always be dispensable and replaceable...
I faced the same thing once had an argument with the neighbor for a pitbull he tied outside my room without food and water and bruises all over. I took the dog and gave it to a friend but then my neighbor promised he will take care of it though he later gave away the dog when i got it back for him.
Contact QAWS and ask them for a solution, if they are willing to accept the for sure unregistered dog then let me know.
Ask the owner if he wants to sell it, if yes ? Pay him and transfer the dog to QAWS. I can help you in sharing the cost to buy the dog and transferring it to QAWS.
Cheers
You're probably right, Mandilulur, but I have a very short temper when it comes to people who abuse children or animals.
Uranus, don't you think that trying to defuse the situation works better for the dog? The owner is irrelevant and certainly unimportant.

Of course, I'd be shaking and upset, too! Obviously he has some sort of guilty conscience or he wouldn't have been so angry. You are very kind to give the poor critter some food and water. Next time, give him food and water and just say, "OK, OK," if the owner shows up. I think he was more upset at your answering him back (male idiot) than your taking care of the dog.
Mandi
Never hesitate to stand up to an idiot like that. You did the right thing. Some people are worse than animals. People like that also like to think of themselves as important, but in my experience anyone who begins a statement with "do you know who I am" is irrelevant and not worth knowing or fearing. The fact is that your employer does not want to see you get kicked out, and your employer is more powerful than some idiot abusing his dog.
Next time he loses his cool, tell him that he had either go back inside or you would call the police and tell them that he chased you while announcing his intention to molest you, making obscene gestures and shouting blasphemous words.
..are more important than the dog, DEFINITELY..try not to earn any bad relationship with a "local" for whatever reason..but, if you feel pity for the dog, do it through a proper authority ( if such exists in qatar)..otherwise, just close your eyes (figuratively)...
Please dont be upset. This attitude of some people I have personally experienced. And its really sad that a human can treat an animal in such a way.
I have seen here posts and topics about QAWS. I have no idea if they can help but would suggest you approach them and find out. And since it is his dog I doubt if any outsiders can interfere but it is certainly worth a try.
I do hope for the sake of the animal someone can help it.
